anyone know of an online company that offers a nice deal on putting a pedal steel on a decent looking business card? i see that vistaprints offers pretty much a free card with a few musical pics for the card, but nobody has any steel guitars (not that i expected anyone to offer them). i guess i could always send in a custom job, but i wanted to check here first to see if anyone has tried this before and had a good answer. peace

Gene Jones was kind enough to e-mail me a PSG icon a few years back. I wonder if he still has it?

This is a topic I've wanted to post for a while. Who out there is in the printing business and could help design a decent simple business card for us? I either put too little or too much but it never suits me. You know this could be a good one for b0b and it could help the forum.

Here is one I made for myself, I used Photoshop, got some biz card stock at Staples and printed it myself.

Here is the image of the steel, it's much larger here because it's at 300 dpi. If you download it and use it to print, it will be about 1" high on the card.

I have cards for both of my "Hobbies" Music and real estate. I took a pic of my hands while playing and made ita light black and white(grayscale)for a background. I'll see if I can post it tomorrow. If you're looking for a house I hand it to ya this way if you're looking for a steel player i hand it to you the other way !!!

I've used a program called MyBusinessCards for win95/8 for a long time. You can add your own small pics, icons, script, etc, and print both sides. Using regular thick paper, instead of the suggested "avery" cheezily perforated available "card stock",cutting them with a paper cutter.

Embossed ones of course are still pretty high buck propositions.

I'd like to see if there's a proggy that will print folding ones, or I guess I could only print 4 on each sheet and cut them twice as wide folding them.

It was a pretty inexpensive program.

i use vistaprint all the time for business cards... you can see some examples at 5happy.com.

they charge $5 to upload a custom (i.e., your) design, and the biggest bite is the shipping charges. still, you can get 5000 high quality full-color cards for maybe $100.

let me know if you want/need assistance,
bruce

I print my own cards. There are many programs available to do this.
I put a photo on the card, of me playing my steel.

Avery makes a card stock that has clean edges--fold and separate. I use them for both my cards, and they're as nice as can be.
I do my artwork in Paint.

I just did mine in Microsoft Excel
The program allows establishing cell dimensions that are right for business cards. You can insert any font for the text and also use pictures or clip art. This is a good solution if you are somewhat familiar with the program. I print 10 to a page on heavy card stock and they look great (to me anyway). I print 10 or 20 whenever I run out. Takes less than 5 minutes to print and cut them out with a paper cutter.

Here is a link to a TrueType font I made of a double neck.
Double Neck

The advantage to a font is that it can be moved around and resized. Type a 72pt "A" and poof there is a steel guitar that can be made any size and manipulated like a font. It is cleaner than an image file both to size and fiddle with.
It will download as a zip file. Open it and drag the file DoubleNeck to the font folder in the control panels. It will then be available in word processors and other programs that use fonts. Mac users know what to do. I also have one for a keyless uni, if any want it.

I made mine for years using a free shareware-type program called "Business Card Designer Deluxe" which I found on cnet.com or zdnet.com, and lately have found that Publisher, included in Microsoft Office has business card-making templates, which you can import any photos you like also. I prefer to use Paintshop Pro, I can do more there.

I don't have any of them on this computer so I can't show them to you, I'll have to look on the other computer.

I printed them onto card stock I bought from Office Depot and cut them out with a single-edge modeler's type razor blade and metal straightedge. If you do it that way, watch you fingers and don't even attempt it if you're accident-prone! I haven't cut myself yet but there's always a first time. Of course you can use regular scissors too... I just like the cleaner, straighter cut from the razor blade... Of course a paper-cutter is best, but watch your fingers with it too, it won't just cut them, it'll take 'em right off. The clean-edge fold and separate paper from Avery would be good, but more expensive than doing it yourself, but also safer.

Chris, overnight prints does a very good job also. You can do a custom design and upload to them for free. If you need help with a custom design email me. I make all my cards and sells info and send most of it to overnight prints.
