I have a musican friend who is having problems with his right inner ear, one of the symptoms is everything he hears is pitched a quarter-tone up or down. Needless to say this is driving him crazy and he is trying to get a definitive diagnosis.

Prior to his comeback, was this part or all of Lloyd's hearing problem that hastened his retirement from recording?

thanks much,
Drew

Lloyd's condition is Meniere's Disease.

My mother-in-law also has Meniere’s and she pretty much lost hearing in her right ear. Fortunately, like Lloyd, many of her symptoms (vertigo/dizziness and nausea) have subsided substantially in recent years.

Search the archives here and you might find information posted on behalf of Lloyd.

I had this problem a few years back and it went away. It lasted for almost a year. I still have one bad ear but the tones match now. I recently had a problem where low frequencies dropped out of my hearing and when turning volume up my ears would feel tight then volume would slowly go down. It comes and goes. I think I have a variation of the disease mentioned above.

I came down the 31st of July with Meniere's disease. Because the disease settled in my right ear I have lost some of the highs in that ear. Meniere's Disease affects people in the 40 - 50 years of age and cause the afore mention problems as vertigo i.e. Dizziness, nausea, tinnitus (Ringing in the Ears). I went to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist in Nashville and after an exam and a MIR that is what he said I had. The only relief as there is no cure was a reduction in caffeine and salt and the doctor put me on a diuretics. The disease is right now gone and I hope that it stays away. It sure put me down for a number of days.
