Amazing. I believe this is the first time I've been able to hear what Alvino Rey sounded like, and certainly the first time I've see what he looks like. There's also some fancy editing for the time. They must have spliced the solos with the names in the background into the ensemble take. The tempo is the same, and they didn't miss a beat. |

Wow, all those heavyweights of the big band era on one session! I wonder how Krupa managed to get them all together for it as they all had their own bands going in those days. I especially liked seeing Harry James. He had one of the sweetest trumpet tones ever!........JH in Va.

Alvino had alot of exposure to the public. Too bad the Steel Guitar didn't catch on with more of the "Big Bands". |

Frederic-Thanks for posting about Alvino Rey, who inspired me to play that style, with full chords. He ws way ahead of his time back then.
That was the Gibson Electra-Harp he was playing with 6 pedals and 9 strings in 1942. After my discharge from the army,I got a used one in 1946 just like it, only 8 strings.. It had the tone an volume control right on top handy to the right hand while strumming.
Roger-Yes, it was great in those days with the Big Bands, Swing, etc. I remember those days and still play those songs....al
