That is indeed a cool picture of Buddy Emmons standing playing the Fender Custom. But, he needs to bring it up to belt buckle height __ it's a better playing position (as if Buddy needed playing tips from me).

To me, after viewing many stand-up players at various performances, waist-high looks better to an audience.

Another T-8 Custom Question:

How is the 3-way switch set up on your Custom?

On mine, when the switch is toward the player the outside neck (front neck) is activated. When the switch is pushed all the way forward away from the player the neck closest to the player is activated. That seems backwards to me, but the prior owner claims that the early Customs were set up that way.

Removing the control plate and switch plate to check for original wiring and solder would be a sure way to tell, but I thought I'd ask here first. Any thoughts?[This message was edited by Doug Beaumier on 27 December 2005 at 11:44 AM.]

That is NOT so. All necks activated by the middle toggle are front (out neck) switch is forward. Middle neck switch is in middle position. Closest neck to player the switch is in position closest to the player.

That's how Big John set up the pewter Custom. It's cool once you get used to it, because there's no danger of accidentally hitting the switch when you're playing the back neck.

Thanks Jody! I guess someone must have cobbled the wiring at some point. I'll have to check that out. The good news is... the guitar still sounds great.

Rick, that's what the seller told me: the switch should be forward to keep it out of the way when playing the back neck. But it seemed backwards to me. Thanks again to Jody for confirming this!
