Just wanted to say how great this site is.After viewing it for a few weeks I decided to join. I use to mess around with an old SHO-BUD in my teen years then pushed it aside and started playing drums.I moved to Ft. Worth,Tx. 10 years ago and if I would have known that there were so many great steelers here I would have gotten back into playing steel then. Well here I am @ 48 years of age with a couple of super teachers and a new steel. Hope I can get really good at playing before I get to old to play. Wish we would have had the internet back in the 70's.

Amen brother and welcome to the Forum, I tried to learn way back in the early 80's but didn't have much luck with it until just recently. The Internet and especially this Forum has had a very large impact on my steel playin, both pedal and non pedal.

Hey Ricky, Welcome to this fine Steel Community. I started when I was 48,nearly 4 years ago. It's never to late. I'm having the time of my life digging into this instrument. Fort Worth ain't too far from me(2 hours), if you want to get together and pick sometime.

Hey Tracy, Rufus was my 2nd cousin. I remember as a very young kid watching Rufus play fiddle in my dad's cajun band before he moved to Nashville. He was one of the best with a style of his own no doubt.

Ricky, are you by chance the son of one of my all time favorite singers, Eugene? Or as everyone knows him, "Geno" !!!

Yep David thats my old man as everyone calls him Geno. I played drums in his band until I moved here to Ft. Worth,Tx. 11 years ago. I'm in Hog Heaven now being around so many steelers who love and play the REAL COUNTRY MUSIC from the past. I wanna thank everyone for the warm welcome here and I know I will enjoy it (as long as I don't get caught reading the forum here at work, lol) Take care and god bless.

Well guys, one thing for sure is that Ricky is an outstanding drummer. If those skills go over to the steel he will be awesome. His father is also a very talented vocalist who is very well known throughout Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. Without a doubt one of my all time favorite singers!
Welcome Ricky!!!

Thanks David, I really miss playing drums but my heart and soul is set on playing the steel now. By the way, were you in any way related to the late great Darrel Higginbotham? I know his son who sings and plays guitar. Take care
