I just found this radio review of BE's great album, and thought I'd share it with you guys. It's a few years old now, but so was Buddy's album when they did this radio spot. Hope this isn't old news here on the Forum.

I'm glad to see this being reissued.
Every lick and chord is so fine, and monster sidemen happening.

I think this is a relatively recent review, and the reviewer has at least done his homework on Buddy. He does credit Buddy with trying to bring the pedal steel into mainstream jazz and to showcase what the instrument is capable of. One or two supposed highbrow jazz reviewers were a little sniffy and slightly dismissive of the album when it was first released.

When you take everything into consideration, Buddy's relatively young age (26), the very short preparation time in the studio and the use of an amp that was clearly not up to the job, you still have to marvel at the sheer dynamics of his playing. He really was a player who was far ahead of his time, and as we all know has continued to improve year on year. The best steel album of all time ? Maybe. The most important steel album of all time? Definitely.
