One of the highlights of any convention or show for me is getting to see and hear Buddy play. To borrow a quote from Laney Hicks which was said of Little Jimmy Dickens (It would be a sad day when we couldn’t turn on the Opry and hear the likes of Little Jimmy Dickens). The same applies to Buddy at steel shows. For the thousands of Fans and fellow steel players to go to a steel guitar show and not see Buddy there is disappointing. His presence, alone, causes a heightened sense of excitement and anticipation that seems to have a positive effect on everybody there. And, when he plays, EVERYBODY quietly pays attention to the instrument we all love played with the ultimate knowledge and skill combined with so much heart and soul."
I would just like to thank you Buddy for coming to St Louis and making the Show such a success and my trip memorable. I hope you bless us with your talent on future shows for many years to come. But even if you never played another note, you have earned a place in the hearts of your fellow steel players, musicians, and fans around the world. Your sets in St Louis were great as always and the song with Laney (A Love like This) was as good as it gets. Thanks again.

I almost didn't go to the convention this year, but when I saw that Buddy was going to be there, and there was going to be a Jazz room, I had to go one more time. It was definitely worth the trip.

| I have always noticed that people would be milling around outside the ballroom, but when Buddy Emmons got up to play they came in. He is just a great steel player and I personally believe what he has done for the steel guitar will never be matched. |

Buddy's being there was one of many reasons I went to St. Louis this year as I had not had the pleasure of hearing him live. I was certainly not disappointed. I was also pleasantly surprised by other performers as well that I had heard before who have polished their craft to such astounding levels.

Buddy is a great player??? An understatement if I've ever heard one!!! Granted, I've not heard all of the past "great" players, but in my lifetime, no one has done so much for and with the steel guitar as Buddy. Scotty had it nailed when he coined the phrase "world's foremost steel guitarist". Still stands true today.

I'm usually unable to attend the ISGC because I'm gigging somewhere. The same was true this year and, as usual, I'm a little envious of those who can get there.
When Buddy Emmons is playing the show, however, there's an added dimension to that uneasy regret I feel; I have the distinct feeling that I'm in the wrong place and that I'm missing something very important.
Thanks for your excellent post, Chuck. You put it very well.
Sometimes I wonder if Buddy himself is in any way uncomfortable with all the accolades that he receives here on the Forum, but there's something different about Buddy playing music on his steel - there are a number of master technicians out there, but he's just..... different. I hope that he realises that most of us are just grasping for the right phrase, and trying to express the inexpressible.
I'll just add my personal 'Thanks, Buddy!' to everyone else's!

| For the 6th year in a row, my wife and I were at St. Louis. It is not the same when Buddy and Peggy are not there. There presence inside the hall keeps the electricy flowing. Thanks Chuck, this is a well deserved thread. |

The highlight of the show for me was Buddy Emmons playing "A Love Like This" on the Russless portion of the show (sorry Russ). We bought the "Russless" CD and WOW - Lloyd Green did a outstanding interpretation of the same song. My wife especially enjoyed seeing Laney play a joke on Russ.
We were left with one Question about Buddy. Is it Buddy or Buddie ? Laney's CD has him listed as Buddie Emmons and he signed my book "Buddy Emmons". So, which it, Buddy or Buddie?

It used to be "Buddie". It has been "Buddy" for quite a few years now. Don't know how,or why this started. Maybe "E" can jump in here & explain it.
