And little OLD me in Peach Pickin' country, St. Catharines, Ontario. Originally from Halifax (really familiar with Billy Reid Sr), Roy Armstrong, Frank Martell the latter two were teachers at the Halifax Hawaiian Studios where I took lessons on an old Stella guitar in 1948. I've met tons of super nice folks in the music playing over the years. George

This post is amazing!! I spent three months at my brothers place Near Cambell River played with every band that visited "The Quinsom" Hotel and a band called Glynn Gillis and the Alley cats (this was about 1984) and I could`ent find another steel player anywhere!!! Apart from a guy called Ben Mayo who lived in Vancouver and played a homemadesteel.
Please Please can I be a Canadian Too??
I will be in Waterloo Ont. next week for at least a couple of days and would love to meet any local players Image

I see the list did not include Canadian Steeler Buddy Ackers. Buddy is one of Canada's best steel guitarist ever. Amazing style and tone and very fast as well.

Hi Bill, unfortunately Ben passed away several years ago. Ben was a freind of mine. Every year since his death we have a musical tribute to Ben at a local Legion hall. One of the bands I play with hosts this event, and we have a major jam session with many local musicians getting in on the act, including Ben's sister Patty Mayo, one of the Vancouver area's well known singers for many years. These jams start about 3:00 in the afternoon, and usually go until around 10, or 10:30 p.m. And John I used to play the Quinsom Hotel back around '89 - '90.

Hey Dale how are you doing. Hope things are going well Yes those were good times. I did a duo gig with Dave Paul a few months ago. He was talking maby doing more of these, but right now I'm dividing my time between three different bands, so I'm keeping as busy as I want to be.
