Who in the heck is that monster playing PSG for Hank Jr on CMT last night?? Young guy, long blond hair. Seemed like he was...

Matt, That was Mike Daly. You're right he is silky smooth and has been playing with Hank for years as well as a number of other folks. I'm sure Mike will appreciate the young guy comment. 
Interestingly, Mike was playing an Emmons last night. I think he was playing a Sho~Bud the last few time I'd seen him.

| I too, am happy to have Mike as a longtime friend and am continually pleased to enjoy hearing his playing with lots of different folks. He has two steels that can appear onstage according to which better fits the music of the performance, an Emmons of early nineties vintage, and an older dark green lacquer Sho-Bud. I think that with Hank he still plays through a Nashville 400 but for session work and showcases and the Pat Green stuff he's always going through a 2-12 Twin or a 2-12 Peavey all tube "twinnish" amp, sorry, I've forgotten the model name. Mike's playing covers a lot of ground and he is adept at dropping steel parts into tracks that become a part of rhythm track textures, with smart applications of delay/echo, tremelo, and distirtion too. He's got the clasic stuff going on as well, If anybody has a copy of the Gail Davies produced, Webb Pierce tribute from a few years ago, that's Mike accompanying Mandy Barnett on a faithful rendition of "Slowly". Dobro and lap/ slide stuff is way cool too. -big ears and wonderfully creative. |
