Not to get off topic, but visit the www.alabamasteelguitar.com website. It's not complete, but should be within the month. The list of players under the "community" pull down bar, only reflects a sample of celebrity players (known at that time). Since that time, Lynn Owsley provided me a list of 23 celebrity level players; I'm sure some have been overlooked. That doesn't even touch all the GREAT non-celebrity level players we have. I think this makes us #1 in steel players and football.

Thank you for the information. Being a born in the Northern part of this great country, is only part of my story, I admire many of my friends who hail from the state of Alabama
I have had friends and have lost friends from Alabama, and I have a soft spot in my heart for those from your great state.
Thank you my friend. PS Tim I have just looked at the website you posted and all I can say is "wow". You are proud of those great players and I am as well, thank you for such wonderful information, and you most certainly
are "Not Off Topic" That is what this thread is all about. ALABAMA. Thanks so much.

Al Marcus, As always, THANK YOU. As for my book? You and I spent close to 2 hours on the telephone in regard to "when is my book coming out" Al, I have had much on my plate for the past 4 or so years and that has taken
my attention from completing my book on my life at Fender, but soon, I will have help from a friend of mine who has the knowledge and know how to spell and correct punctuation and grammer which I don't have.
To My good friend John Bechtel, thank you as well John, and what chord do you do you refer to? I only know (2) one is F# and the other is Gb. And yes, thank bOb Lee for allowing me to tell my stories and praise those I think so much of.
This Forum has brought me new friends and friends from my past when I was just a young fellow starting out, and for that I thank all
of you and most of all God!!!
Thank You.
Jody PS.As you see, most all of my posts are edited, why? because I can't spell that's why Don't say I didnt warn you, or ya'll.
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 14 July 2006 at 05:29 AM.]

You just had to do it again, huh? I am glad your posts about Alabama create so much interaction by forum members.
Some of you I know and have met and some I am familiar with but have not met. I think we need to work on that.
Tim Bridges...Thanks for the kind words. I have enjoyed our past fellowship and look forward to the next time. Kinda gutsy of you to put down that D-10 and tackle that S-12. I was trying to keep that PP a secret from Jody in hopes I might trade him out of that beauty he has.
John Bechtel... You nailed it my friend!!
Dan Carey... You are joining up with quite a family. I wish you much happiness.
To all the rest... Thanks for bring kind to my great friend Jody Carver. Jody is truly a friend to all on this forum and holds no ill will for any of you!!
God Bless you all,
Bill

A beautiful ending for a wonderful friend. Those Stars will be as bright as diamonds forever, and when I see those stars through the darkness of night, I will think of Bill and Barb and all of you who hail from Alabama. I revived this thread against Bill being so modest, he wanted not to be the center of attraction, but I'm happy I did.
My sincere Thanks to all of you.
Jody. edited to wish Bill and Barb the best of luck and good health for many, many years.
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 16 July 2006 at 07:11 AM.]

Jody: The other day I was thinking it's about time I sent you some more pecans and that very night the local news had a story telling about how bad the crop was this year what with a regular decline in nut production and the drought and heat we are currently experiencing here in central Georgia. Like gas, I think the sky will be the limit on prices this year.
But since you knew The One Rose and always spoke highly of Forrest White, I'll do my best to find some for you. But you'll have to let me know your snail mail address so I don't send them to Roy or Al ! Mine is 1353 Glendale Ave; Macon, GA. 31206 so let me know. I get by a computer every so often and I'll check this thread next time I do !!
Regards, Paul

Bill: On a recent Public TV show, they did a special on Marty. The "Expert on music who talked on the show" said the fuzz tone on Don't Worry About Me was done on a "Broken Bass Guitar...." Then they showed a clip of the song and someone who I didn't recognize was playing in on the C neck of a Emmons PSG. Was that you ??
I have asked a lot of people who that was but none of them knew. Judging from what JC has said about you, I'd say it probably was !
I remember Alabamy Bound from the old Noel Boggs rendition and while I haven't heard your's or Al's arrangements, I'll stay with my gut and Noel with that Q-8 Fender. I saw it at a drive in theater and my girl friend thought I was stupid for getting so excited about a guitar. Oh, well !! Five wives later, I still feel the same way....

Paul,
I don't think I have seen the Public TV special you mentioned. If the steel player was playing an Emmons it wasn't me. I played a Stringmaster with my own single pedal E to A change when I played with Marty. Also,
"Don't worry about Me" came down the tube after I packed the guitar away and found a real job.
My association with Marty did have a strange twist,however...My engineering career took me into motorsports... I also got to work with Marty when he was racing stock cars. My friendship with Marty extended past both our musical and racing associations. He was a fun loving guy who truly cared for people. I haven't seen his son Ronnie in quite awhile but as Ronnie reached adulthood he was much like Marty in that respect.

Hello to all I am a brand new member to the forum but I have been looking at many of the topics for several months now trying to glean as much help as I can in trying to relearn the Hawaiian Lap Steel again. This particular topic really got my attention since Alabama is my home and when I saw the name of Luke Morris posted by Jody Carver well that really brought back some memories. I am wondering if this is the same Luke Morris that was my steel guitar teacher back in the 50's at the old Rutz Music Store (no longer in existence) in Mobile, Alabama my home town. It really struck a sad note with me because he was a really great guy and teacher. I think about him often since I just recently came back to the steel after a 44 year layoff from playing music and am now relearning the instrument and having a great time with it. Could Jody or someone confirm if this is the same Luke Morris and how long ago it has been since he passed away.
Thanks a bunch,
Mel Taylor

I have known Luke quite a while. I beleive that Luke did in fact teach steel guitar. Luke passed away in a motel while working the New Orleans area. His body was found by one of the chambermaids. Luke was with Al Hirt and his group visiting the night before.
There is a photo of Luke Morris on my website
if you look at it, it may confirm whether or not it is in fact the same Luke Morris you make reference to. Try this www.jodycarver.com if not I will try to scan a photo to you. Best to you. Okay click on to the website and then you will see a number of selections.Click on to MusicMan and scroll. If this is the Luke you remember, he was a wonderful human being and one of my dearest friends during my time with Fender as well as MusicMan. Luke passed in 1982.
Thank You.
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 02 August 2006 at 04:37 AM.]

Thanks Jody. It has been 50 years since I last saw Luke but from my best recollections that has to be him in the picture. It saddens me know that he is gone but at the same time brings back good memories seeing his picture and remembering the lessons he gave me on the lap steel. Several of my close friends took lessons from him also. My mom and dad used to go with me for my lessons and of course they would always get him to play some of their favorite songs on the steel guitar before we would leave. He was an excellent player.
Thanks to you again for bringing back some good memories to this old man.

You are most welcome. Those of us who knew Luke loved him. I think of him often and thank you for your reply.
My Best always.
Jody The Lyrics to Stars fell on Alabama are beautiful.Perhaps I can e mail Donny Hinson one my favorite Forum members to post the lyrics. Mel you are not old, from your words, you are Young at Heart and that's all that matters. I wish you the best of health.
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 02 August 2006 at 06:23 AM.]

Is this the one, Jody?
Stars Fell on Alabama
We lived our little drama
We kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on alabama
Last night
I can't forget the glamour
Your eyes held a tender light
While stars fell on Ol' Bama
Last night
I never planned in my imagination
A situation, so heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center, just you and me
My heart beat just like a hammer
My arms wound around you tight
And while stars fell on alabama
Last night
