Ken, I believe it was T.G. Sheppard that did that song. Not sure who was on steel.

It was Bill Browder,,AKA "TG Sheppard"....
Alamo Tenn.

The story goes , he was sitting on his porch thinking of a Stage Name,,
His dog was playing in the yard at the time.
Yep, It was,,, "The German Sheppard".

TG Shepard recently released a "LIve at Billy Bob's" cd and this song is on it. Hank Jr. also recorded the song a long time ago and in my opinion did a better job.

Hank also rerecorded it a couple of years ago on his "I'm One of You" cd.

Ken, check your email. It was definitely TG Sheppard, the steeler is not listed on the album. But he or she does a terrific job on the song.

The steeler on T. G. Shepard's original version of "Devil in the Bottle" is Pete Drake.

John,

The steeler on T.G. Shepard's "Devil In A Bottle" was Lloyd Green. It is one of the 116 No. 1 Country Hits that Lloyd played on. Chart debut was 11/30/1974, it stayed on the charts for 19 weeks!

Kind Regards, Walter

John,

My apologies - you were right, it is Pete Drake playing on "Devil In A Bottle", Lloyd has also confirmed that. There was no intention from my side to take any credit away from Pete Drake also. The list on the website (Lloyd's playing on #1 hits ) will also be adjusted accordingly!

Thanks for mentioning Pete's name on that one!

Kind Regards, Walter

Think nothing of it Walter, we're all human and make mistakes. Just ask my wife, she could tell of a bunch of 'em I've made.

Pete's work on this song is outstanding! Nothing really fancy, just plain good taste and great imagination with licks (yes...LICKS) that fit the song perfectly.
