| Gee, I hope this is not old news, I've been off line for a couple of weeks; anyhoo, Bear Family has released the complete Bud Isaacs RCA recordings on one cd, along with a great booklet w/ rare pictures and discography. Just saw this cd in my local record store and it looks great, the cover is the same as the rare RCA Bud Isaacs 45 EP record and there are some indepth liner notes too, w/ quotes and comments by none other than the man himself. Beautiful package indeed!! |

Excellent package for sure. Tons of great recordings including the title track: the famous, and incredibly catchy "bud's bouce".
One photo from the 40-page booklet that might qualify as a rarity shows Isaacs with Marty Robbins and Grandpa Jones, all on stage together.
I bought the cd at ET's record shop a week ago. I had to pay 21 bucks, but for 25 tracks and the thick booklet it was of course well worth the price. |

AT ST. LOUIS SGHFC, I MET BUD FOR THE FIRST TIME ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO..HE HAD HIS COLLECTION WITH HIM {HIS RECORDINGS] AND I BAUGHT EVERYTHING HE HAD , A COPY OF EACH, AND EVEN SOME DUPLICATES....HE AND JERRY WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND NICE TO JANE AND I.. I HAVE ADMIRED BUDS STEEL WORK SINCE I WAS IN MY EARLY TEENS, I AM 71 NOW....BUDS PLAYING OF 50+ YEARS AGO IS AS MODERN AS TODAYS,,AND THE EQUIPMENT HE USED, WELL YOU KNOW THE REST.....
I REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT BUD DID FOR THE STEEL GUITAR, AND STEEL GUITAR MUSIC....YES b0b, I TOO HOPE HE GETS HIS ROYALTYS, AS HE SHOULD....I STILL TRY TO COPY SOME OF HIS LICKS.....A GREAT MAN IN OUR WORLD......

Bear Family acquires the rights to release their cd's from the legal current owners of the material, which in this case is probably Sony BMG. I have no doubt that if it's up to BF, Bud gets what is agreed.
I too have all these recordings on a cd I bought from Bud himself, but like it was said, the booklet itself is worth the price. |

Bud gets absolutely nothing from the sale of these CDs. Some of the information Bear has was gleaned from Bud on the pretense of a fan wanting info. Too bad, especially with the health that Bud is presently in. A friend of mine is putting together DVD's that will be avilable on Bud's website once they get them finished. Those will go directly to Bud's benefit.

Sure sounds like the record business to me alright.This is the way those company's work now a days.The don't give a hoot as long as they sell what they want to sell.
Are Bud's recordings copy written?If they are then there is not much The Bear Family can do.
Way to go Robbie.....I would like to have one of those when you are done with them.Shoot me a mail when you find some time.

I know that "Bud's Bounce" is copyright listed with the Harry Fox Agency because I paid the license fee to record it a few years ago.

Bud's Bounce is about the only royalty that Bud gets. He gets small dribblings here and there of things from the past, but nothing like the amount he deserves. Hate to see things like that when a person dedicates his or her life to their passion.

Bear Family Records are first class. They have become the label for documenting classic american roots music often the booklets that come with the box sets are breathtaking [ LP size booklets so you don't strain the eyes!
The label is run by enthusiasts. On the royalty issue I'm sure that they would wish to be legitimate,However I would expect a lot of studio musicians mostly just got a one off session fee for most of the work they did. Isn't it strange that its usually European labels that put out all the great historic stuff rather than american labels or am I missing something |

I think it's because they can get around paying out the royalties when they put out all these box sets in countries other than the states.
They just pay a flat fee to what ever record company holds the masters, then get to bypass all the unit sells royalties to songwriters, musicians, and artist. |

Good grief, could the moderator please close this topic!! My intention was not to make this some freakin' copyright or royalty issue  . I just wanted to point out that the great recordings by Bud are finally reissued along with a nice booklet.
