I had the pleasure to hear Russ Hicks at the Preston Hotel in Nashville last night and man what a pleasure. He did a show with Vern Gosdin as the Featured Artist with a new talent Rodney Collins as the opener and host band for the show.

If you've never had the pleasure of hearing Russ live you sure don't know what your missing. Russ was playing as fine as I've ever heard him. He plays everything like it's a master session. That's the difference between him and your average run of the mill picker he has the attitude that every lick he's picking counts and believe me the way he plays he really does make it count.

You'll never meet a more humble player than Russ. He just can't be beat. I was mesmerized all night by Russ's playing I just wish I could have heard him better. It was a pretty quiet gig at the hotel but it was a refreshing pause from some of the loud gigs.

Vern was in rare form and I enjoyed every song that he sang. I didn't know that Vern had such a good sense of humor. He started every set (short show 2 of them) with a few fresh jokes no kidding he let lose a few funny jokes which went over very good. Most people were there to hear Vern but I might add they got a very sweet bonus by having Russ as the house steel player!

Thanks Russ I'll never forget that night it will always be one of my very favorite gigs of all times!!!!

Well... now I'm mad at Vern! I mean, here I played on all his post-Vest sessions, and he didn't even call me? Oh, the shame...

Russ is, though, one of the best, I agree... and an old friend, as well... I would have liked to have heard him, myself!

Yeah guy's you both are right. I just can't believe it's my 1st gig with him after all these years. I hope it's not another 25 years before we play again :-)

Russ Hicks- what can I say?
Russ produced and played Steel on my CD,and also played Bass on my set at our show, in E. Peoria, Ill. I that ain't enough, you ain't heard nothin' 'til you hear him cut loose on the 6-string guitar, AND, the man plays a pretty mean Trumpet, too! He's a very friendly, and pretty laid-back guy, and I'm very proud to consider him a very good friend!
