There is a great post on the Forum--"MUSIC" section, concerning our recently released new CD. From Denmark---the fellow who perchased our CD thinks it is Texas music played better than the Texans. I hope my friends Bobby Flores, Tommy Detamore, Dicky Overby and the rest of my friends down in Texas read this post in the Music section of the Steel Guitar Forum. My head is swelled so big I may not get it though the door. What do you guys down it Texas think of that?

I love Elvis, I hate Elvis--where is the CHIEF? We need the grand master of this kind of music to JUDGE. We need RAY PRICE to judge this CD.

Man if they can do Texas Bar Room Music better than Bobby, Dickey and Jake Hooker, I'm selling everthing i own and moving there . Hope I can land a job with them
Truth be told you can find Country Music the way Counrty should be done in just about any of the old dance halls in the Texas hill country.
Nashville may have lost touch of where Country Music came from but from Dallas/FW down to San Antonio/Lampasses the Heart of Country Music still beats strong and proud.

Just My humble opinion for all those who care.
That Good stuff Even spills over in the bayou country and makes the cajuns Want to dance
Will order your CD. If someone needs to be helped out It's Guys that are brave enough to put out good music.

Daniel, you hit the nail on the head. Anyone who is crazy enough to produce hard core 4/4 shuffle songs with fiddle and E9th steel guitar may need to have their head examined. I was told "You will be sorry if you do all 4/4 shuffle songs on the CD." Did I listen--NO! Do I really care-NO! I love that kind of music. Daniel Wade Landry and Chuck Landry, two of the players on the CD are Cajuns. I will put Wade's playing up against anyone in the word when it comes to the Tommy Jackson style. For those of you who don't know--Bobby Flores and all the great fiddle players idolize what Tommy Jackson did on fiddle with such singers as Ray Price. As I said, I will put Wade Landry's fiddle playing up against any fiddle player in the world when it comes to the 4/4 shuffle Tommy Jackson style. Chuck Landry is the best drummer I have ever listened to or had the pleasure of playing with. It took guts to produce a high quality hard core Texas Dance Hall CD with all new shuffle tunes. We are not just repeating old Ray Price songs on this CD, the songs are new songs. Why not play the stuff you love and throw caution to the wind?

My that's a pretty bold statement to agree with Smile I'm sure our friends in Texas might have a different view on the statement that our friends across the pond made Smile No negative underlying connotations here just an observation :-)

Heck that aint no problem!! We love good Texas music whereever we find it and if someone plays it better than us, the natives, we simply adopt them. So Keith and the rest of the gang, who appreciates what good music REALLY Is, let me be the first to congratulate you on being ADOPTED TEXANS. Now that that is out of the way do some more, we love it.

Thanks for the time Gary A.

Mr Hilton's CD is certainly "top of the stack" 4/4 Texas Style shuffle of well written and greatly performed by "top of the stack" talent. Ditto on his comment about Wade and Chuck Landry and there are a couple more friends in Branson that rate right with them and thats Bruce Hoffman on fiddle and Milt Quackenbush on keybords.
Not sure what's in the house band line up this year but a good chance you can catch all four of them at our July 30th Branson Jam at The Baldknobbers. See Terry Bethel's post in "Events and announcements"
(I'm not sure the Texans would be too proud of Keith's attire he wore to The Show here at Siloam Springs this year)---"WHEW" !!

Keith, I haven't heard all of your cd yet, just pieces, but I can certainly vouch for the Landry boys. We are proud of them down here. I worked with Wade for a few months several years ago, what a kick. If you see him tell him I said hello.

Gary is right, I wanted to get a rise out of all my friends down in Texas. Almost all of them use my volume pedal and are good friends. I am one of the biggest fans of Bobby Flores, Jake Hooker,Amber Digby, Justin Trevino,Dicky Overby, Tommy Detamore and a bunch more in that area. When I read the post on the forum in "Other Topics"-- Music, put on by a customer who bought our new CD in Denmark, I smiled really big. The comment that I really liked was "Texas music better than Texan's can play it." That isn't me saying it, it is a guy in Denmark who paid for my CD and loved it so much he made a post on the Forum. You don't have to buy one of our new CDs, you can hear samples on my web site. Go to www.hiltonelectronics.com Thanks to all the Texans who have honored me by making me an honoary Texan because of this new CD. Texans like Johnny Bush and Ray Price play the kind of music I like. They are not afraid to turn up the pedal steel guitar down in Texas. Thats what I like about Texas and Texans.

Tommy Jackson is dead, but they all want to play fiddle like him. He is on a lot of the Ray Price recordings.

I'm the guy from Denmark who bought that Keith Hilton / Gary Atkinson CD. And I didn't really say that some pickers play better or worse than others. What I said was

"You seldom find an album this straight ahead texan. Not even from a Texas act"

Which means, that only a few Texas acts keep it this country. I was talking about the way the Hilton bunch aproach the music - more than the musicianship.

Per, main stream country radio in the United States does not sound like country radio we used to love. I hear less and less steel guitar on today's country music radio. This is not the case down in Texas. Wonderful country music still exists down in Texas. Down in Texas all the country bands have a steel guitar, and they let the steel player turn up. Per, let me thank you for buying our new CD. Also thanks for posting your opinion of the CD. If you were here I would give you a big hug! Thanks!

Ron Elliott, you are one of my favorite players! You play some of the sweetest E9th I have ever heard. I loved your CDs, I am sending you a free copy of our new CD. Now, let me reply to Ron Kirby. Ron, is it OK if I agree with you? Here is something important; When we go to steel guitar shows, we always hear the song, "A Way To Survive", played at least once and sometimes 20 times. We hear the same old songs over and over. They are great songs and I love them. Many times we hear these old songs performed better than the original players and singers.
It is like the Elvis impersonators doing Elvis. I don't care how good "Crazy Arms", "Another Bridge To Burn","A Way To Survive" is played, or sang, everyone has heard someone else play the song better. The point being, these are all old songs. To me Bobby Flores recorded "How Long Is Forever This Time" better than any version I have ever heard, but this is still an old song. My question is this: Must we always live in the past when it comes to Country steel songs we love? When I am around steel players I hear people say stuff like; "He never played that song as good as Buddy." "He tried to sound like Mooney on that old Buck Owens song, but I heard Jimmy play it better than anyone". "Paul played it better." With our new CD I had the guts to put my money where my mouth was! I had the guts to produce and arrange a new Texas Music CD with all NEW songs. There is a big difference in our CD, it contains all BRAND NEW SONGS. Therefore--at this point---no one can say Buddy, Doug,Paul,or John played any of these songs better than Keith Hilton. Our purpose in doing this new CD was to sell these songs to singers interested in great country music. The songs are listed with BMI, and through Gary and My publishing Company. We already have singers recording these songs. I am certain we will hear some of these songs played instrumentally at steel guitar shows very soon. The song on our CD, "Please Ring Telephone", would be a good replacement for you steel players who are tired of hearing, and playing, "A Way To Servive". If you want to hear new Texas Music, listen to our CD. If you want to hear repeats of old songs, there are pleanty of wonderful CDs with repeats of old songs. Check out samples of our new CD at www.hiltonelectronics.com If you don't like anything new, don't check out our CD.

Good old real Country Music can be found all over the U.K. and Europe .The biggest compliment ever paid to my old band The Radio Sweethearts ,when playing support for Dale Watson ,was Dale and the Boys(my hero Ricky Davis) saying "Are you sure you guys ain't from Texas".
After visiting Dallas for the Steel show in March all I can say is Texas is the home of real country music.
