This , is the first time I have heard "Together Again" without the Steel, I must say Buck & Don made the song from the start, they did not need a steel guitar to make them sound great.
I have to admit, that this song , was one of the first to get me interested in pedals.
Just my opinion!

Emmy Lou had a good steel. Didnt come in til half the song, But really smooth.
Not as aggressive as Buck Owens.
I like it both ways though.

To listen to "Together Again" without the steel, would be the same as trying to listen to Vince Gill sing "Just Look At Us" without the steel.Just aint the same.

I think I remember reading that Buck toured in Europe without a steel to cut costs...fairly common practice, even done today. I suppose that explanation makes sense in that he could've got someone to play if a Tom Brumley wasn't available. If this clip was from 1970, then it would've been after Tom left (1969). Am I right that JayDee Maness followed TB in the Buckaroos?

That is pretty unique without steel. Whare was Tom for that job? Let's not forget the rare footage of Don Rich either. Without Don Rich, what would the Fender telecaster be today?

In my own opinion, Country music without steel is like a body with no feelings, food without flavor, sheep without their pastor...

I'm just too much of a fan of the steel.

I don't think $$ cost was a factor here, I noticed on this clip there was another Tele player, besides Don there also!

Maybe just in between during the transition from Tom to the next steel player?

Honestly, I love Buck and Don, but that song without the steel is a mere shadow of itself, i.e. no color.

I recently watched all 3 of the Buck Owens Ranch Show video tapes. In all the episodes from 1970 there's no steel at all. Lots of piano ect.. I guess they were in between steel players or maybe they were looking for a new sound. I really didn't like it as much.
