Greetings from the UK!
I'm Lee and I've just joined the forum and wanted to say hello.
I won't bore you all with too much with my life story, but here's a little background about why I joined.
I've been playing lap steel for about a year and a half - an old 60's Guyatone, and have just purchased my first pedal steel.
Unlike probably the majority of the folk on the forum I'm not really a country boy (though I do listen and have great respect), but I'm more into pop and rock, having been a guitarist/bassist/keyboardist for over 30 years. I grew up listening to punk, The Beatles and all manner of 60's garage and psychedelia.
I really got into steel through listening to The Byrds "Notorious Byrd Brothers", and also through listening to my uncle, Jerry West, who was a pioneer of the UK steel scene in the 50's and 60's.
Anyway, I've just bought my uncle's old sweet-sounding Fender 400 that had been sitting in an attic for about 20 years, very dirty and in need of some tlc, but complete and fully functioning. It cleaned up a treat and the chrome now shines! Three pedals and four knee levers, and all the cables now oiled up and running freely That old steel has seen plenty of action - including on stage at the London Palladium - and can be heard on several Slim Whitman recordings - but I have plans for it far removed from "Indian Love Call" and "Rose Marie"!
After pestering b0b with a load of questions (sorry about that b0b) about the best copedants for rock and pop, I'm now awaiting delivery of some new strings and can't wait to set it all up with the E7 Sacred Steel tuning and get recording with it as soon as I can!
I'll be posting soon again if anyone is interested in my impending journey off the beaten track and into the unknown with my rejuvenated Fender!
Best wishes one and all,
Lee

Welcome Lee, good to have you here. Starting on an instrument with such a history has to be a good thing, maybe there are some ghosts left in it. Good luck.
