My favorite all-time steelsolo comes from the album "Nashville Skyline" by Bob Dylan, called nashville skyline rag. Great solo on that track, played by Pete Drake. I'm curious what's yours.

In my limited time listening intently to pedal steel solos, my all-time favourite is Jimmie Crawford's solo in Ernest and Justin Tubb's duet of "Blue-Eyed Elaine" from The Legend And The Legacy album. The first bar of the solo is completely left-field.

If anybody has this version, could they listen to it and at least give me half a clue as to what he's doing in that first part? I wish I could post it. I only have it on LP.

Ernest Tubb introduces his solo: "And now here's Jimmie Crawford." And then the fog sets in.

The first steel solo that ever took my head off is still the one I love the best: Rusty Young on Buffalo Springfield's "Kind Woman".
Then there's E's "Rainbows All Over Your Blues" with John B. Sebastian, and John Hughey's "Lost in the Feeling" with Conway. Oh, yeah, and "Bad Weather" too: Rusty Young with Poco.
