Flying Burrito Bros. video (Sneaky Pete)
On...where else?....YouTube....
This is a video they did for a local TV show, singing "Older Guys." I had seen pics from the video shoot, but never the video itself. Pretty neat! Pete is "playing" his steel standing up throughout.

Now if only some early 1970s Michael Nesmith video would pop up.....the only thing I know of that could be floating out there is his 1971 appearance on "American Bandstand." I have the audio of this.....he notes that Red Rhodes was with him, but Red didn't play (Nez sang "Joanne" with just his acoustic guitar). They then followed that up by having everyone dance to "Nevada Fighter." Two songs that no one should ever dance to....must have been a bad week for "American Bandstand"!

That's circled around on byrd's compilation videos for years. It IS hilarious - Gram in his best/worst "Jagger-mode"...
Yep, Michael Clarke on drums. And the tune is ftom the second album, "Burrito Deluxe", not to be confused with Sneaky's former "new" band by the same name. Apparently Jon Beland somehow got rights to the Flying Burrito Brothers Name and won't let even founding members use it, which is ridiculous.

See my post in this thread for instructions on how to save YouTube videos.Wish there was some way to save copies off that site...
If you have Firefox, here's a new extension that lets you save them directly.

Sneaky Pete was the first guy I ever saw up close and personal playing steel guitar, and I was amazed at his ability, and floored by the beautiful sound of the instrument.I played guitar for the bee gee's for about 30 yrs,and in the mid 70's we did an album(which was never released)at the record plant in Los Angeles, and Pete Kleinow was next door doing something with Steve Wonder.Anyway long story short ,the lads asked Sneaky Pete to come and play on a track ,so in he walks, plugs straight into the board, listened to the song once, and started to play what seemed at the time, to be the most amazing stuff. This experience had a profound effect on me,and started my love affair with the steel guitar.(I imediately went out and bought a single neck Sho Bud)I had no idea then that he didn't play a standard Nashville tuning, or that he had an unusual approach to the steel,or that some people didn't even consider him a real steel player, It was the emotional content of his playing, and the sound of the instrument that moved me so much. Thats interesting Alan coming from a musician of your stature. Sneaky Pete is truly one of a kind and has inspired many people to take up steel including Dan Dugmore who bought his first steel (MSA) from Sneaky.
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 11 May 2006 at 08:50 PM.]

Jeff,
How does the downloader extension work? I've downloaded the extension, but when I click on the icon I get a box that says to A)Right-click (on what?)and choose "Save Target As", which doesn't appear as one of the options when I right-click (on anything), or B)Copy and Paste the link into my "Download Manager".How do I get into my Download Manager? When I click on the "Download Link" button in the Downloader window, it opens a dialogue box that asks what I want to do with "Get-Video...", which is not the video I'm trying to get (I have no idea what "Get_Video" is).
b0b, I know this question would normally belong in the Computers area, but as it relates to trying to download these particular videos, I'm asking it here for myself and perhaps others who are having trouble with it.

Brint,
Actually, his instructions aren't exactly correct. Right-click as follows:
Then, select "Save Link As...". (Firefox doesn't have a "Save Target" option.) The download dialog window then displays. Next:

That is the file you want. He's just making "Get-Video" the default name. You'll want to re-name it, and change the extension to .flv. Don't forget that you'll need an FLV player to view the downloaded file. There's a link to one in the dialog box shown above. When I click on the "Download Link" button in the Downloader window, it opens a dialogue box that asks what I want to do with "Get-Video...", which is not the video I'm trying to get

Alan - Al played right at the end of the Burrito's first run. Only did the "Last of the Red Hot Burritos" album, sort of a mixed country/rock/Bluegrass record, live. Right afterwards he went to A&M to get all the old albums to learn the songs, and the band folded. There were then a few gigs with Don Beck on steel, then they REALLY folded until Sneaky and Chris Etheridge restarted things in the mid-70's with Gene Parsons and Joel Scott Hill. Perkins had gone on to Mannassas....
