Hi folks,

Has anyone got recommendations regarding bluegrass instruction material for acoustic lap steel (preferably on DVD, or tabs on the internet)?

Is G-B-D-G-B-D the tuning mainly used for bluegrass?

(I will also post a request for listening recommendations on the "Music" forum if anyone has any CDs to recommend).

Thanks!

Fred

Hi Fred. The Great Dobro Sessions is a good one it's got 11 different Dobro players on it and provides a wide variety of styles. It features these great Dobro players.

GBDGBD (hi-bass G) is almost universal for bluegrass -- used by Josh Graves with Flatt & Scruggs the 40's or 50's -- very few exceptions --

Bashful Brother Oswald with Roy Acuff used hi-bass A, I believe -- same but 2 frets higher

Jerry Douglas has recently gone to using a 2nd Dobro tuned to DADF#AD, in addition to traditional G tuning
