The seller makes reference to Walter and there also is a decal on the Fender. Is he connected to Fender somehow? steel guitar on eBay.

Walter is a legend, but never got the credit he deserved IMO. Great player. I just ordered that CD.

ITS POSSIBLE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN WALTER HAYNES STEEL...

Yeah, and it's also possible it could have been Walter Cronkite's, or Walter Mondale's, or Walter Winchell, or could have belonged to any one of tens of thousands of steel players named "Walter."

Ah, eBay!

I understand that Maynard G. Krebs' middle name was Walter.

Ok, Ok, I get the picture. *Looking for new topic* But it might be his, right? Look what someone paid for that Fogerty lap. Enough said by me.

Aloha to all,
In the mid 70's, I purchased a double 10 ShoBud from David Haynes in Louisville, and he said he was a brother to Walter. He was, is a great player. A few years later he traded me for a blonde single neck as he wanted the double neck back, and I was tired of hauling the big steel around in and out of our 1947 Flexible bus. Those were great days, and I miss them.
Later,
Phil

Ron, I suppose the steel could possibly have been owned by Walter Haynes, in the same way that a Fender guitar with an "Eric" stick-on, individual letters, decal could possibly have been owned by Eric Clapton, right? But would you put that in an eBay ad?

My point was that a seller shouldn't make "it's possible" claims about an item he's selling that he knows little or nothing about. Selling something on eBay, a seller should stick to factual things he knows are certain, and not "imply" things that are a long shot.

OTOH, the Fogerty lap steel is a different issue. It has a letter of provenance from George Gruhn, who's a respected dealer in vintage and celebrity instruments and has a reputation to maintain.

Jeff,
Walter Cronkite was too busy as a ground breaking DJ to play steel guitar... Here he is scratching for some lady friends...

glad to hear it Chuck, laughing at a 'day job' is sometimes not an easy task...that pic is actually from my work's website ( www.rfbd.org ) and Walter is demonstrating the latest technology in 'talking books'. The woman on the right is reading the Braille label on the record sleeve....the first time I saw it though, my thoughts immediately went to "DJ Cronkite"...

Hmmm, Walter Cronkite crashed himself into a questionable party; the "lady" on the left is positively a guy in a wig!!!

That's a soundscriber, a recording lathe used like a dictaphone in the office, and also for recording books for the blind (e.g. the 2 hot chicks in the photo.)

My wife really digs it when I scratch for her, usually right after I wake up in the morning.
