Help! Has anyone had this kind of problem with Paypal? I opened an account with Paypal to pay for a guitar off Ebay because the seller specified Paypal for payment. After exchange of some info he ok'd a certified check. I then closed the Paypal account without having used it. I kept getting mail about suspending the account unless I updated info, which meant a credit card number. Now I receive an email that I have authorized a payment of a large sum to someone in Fl. To dispute it I have to access my account but can't because its canceled. Does anyone know how to contact Paypal?

Spam. Ignore them. If your account is closed, you can't be responsible for anything. I get about 5 of those emails a day- they are just trollers hoping someone will bite and send the info. Scam. Delete![This message was edited by John McGann on 17 April 2006 at 04:32 PM.]

Don't. This is a scam, and it has nothing to do with your PayPal account. People who have never even used PayPal are getting that email too. (It's about a Sony Vaio P4 computer, to be shipped to a guy in Florida, right?)

The scammers are trying to get you to enter your PayPal password in their FAKE PayPal site, so that they can loot your account.

PayPal, like eBay, will address you by name in a legit email. If these emails don't have your name in 'em, do as John says, and ignore/delete them. If they DO contain your name, give PayPal a call. They're easy to reach, easy to understand, and the phone number is right on the PayPal website. Good luck!

I too received that same scam from the phishers. Paypal had me send the e-mail to them as they are trying to chase it down.

This is the response I got from them when this happened to me:

I received the same e-mail this morning. Payment for a Sony computer to a guy in Fl. Look's like they're going through the pages on the Forum getting e-mail addrress's.

i get these type emails every week, proposing to be from paypal,and some has a new dell computer ready to be shipped to me, if i will give the needed info. you just don't want to give personal info. no matter how good the deal may sound.

I got the same email yesterday about buying a Sony Viao with Pay Pal. I ignored it and deleted the email. They appeared to be too eager for me to click the link to dispute the charge. That's when I suspected a scam...

Look's like they're going through the pages on the Forum getting e-mail addrress's.

This isn't related to the Forum at all. I know people who aren't remotely associated with the Forum who get the same crap.

This is off topic for "Steel Players" so I'm closing it. It's been discussed many times in the 'Computers" section of the forum.
