Redneck Jazz Explosion: $80 on Amazon???

Post by Gerald Menke »

Hello,

I am making an effort to check out as much of Buddy Emmons' music as possible, (Everlys, Judy Collins, on and on) and wanted to check out a copy of Redneck Jazz Explosion, to find they go for from $80-100+ on Amazon. (No local store in NYC is going to have this album, you wouldn't believe what we go through to get any cool old country here) Is this what one has to pay these days to get a copy of this album or is this a typical Internet "buyer beware" situation? I am dying to hear this album!

Thanks for reading my post.

Yup, that's the "free market system" at it's best! Image

Think I'll just wait until the movie comes out!

Danny Gatton has his own website where you can still buy most of his released recordings including "Red Neck Jazz", just go to www.dannygatton.com and you will see for yourself.

Out of stock on Danny Gattons site.

The place to go is WWW.GEMM.COM.

They can search the inventory of 1000s of online second hand record dealers. If they can´t find a record there is an option to have them continue searching til one becomes available and they send you an email.

At the moment of writing someone has it second hand mint CD for $44 and there are two different places each selling a new one for under $23.

I believe Big Mo records is working on a reissue of Redneck Jazz. The Danny Gatton site actually links up to the Big Mo homepage for CD purchases. In the meantime, I'm there with you waiting for the reissue.

Sugarmegs has a show (Windows streaming) from January 79 with Buddy (and I think Lenny Breau) on it. Scroll down to Danny Gatton 1979-01-25:

FYI...
I also saw Brent Mason's CD "Hot Wired" on that site going between $38 and $89. Paul Franklin played on that CD too, some amazing picking from both players and Matt Rollings too...IMO. (Matt's one of the finest keyboard players that recorded in Nashville on a ton of hits). Some cuts have a real Jazz flavor to it. Chet, Mr. Guitar also plays on a cut with Brent.

I have both Redneck Jazz Explosion and Hot Wired. The fact that they are in such demand just proves that they are both classic recordings. Brent's album is a real showcase of his skills. While the recording quality of Danny's album is perhaps not the best, his and the Big E's playing is awesome at times.

Hi guys, I've got a copy of "redneck jazz explosion" by Danny Gatton but it only has 9 songs is that the CD you are talking about?

Actually I haven't seen the CD in several years because in 2002 or so I archived all my CD collection to MP3's on my hard drive it's over 60 gigs. So I'm wondering if I missed some of the songs on the CD or did it originally only have 9 songs? Thanks for the info.

Are you talking about the LIVE album "Redneck Jazz Explosion" or the studio album called "Redneck Jazz?"

Big Mo is re-releasing the NRG version of "Redneck Jazz Explosion" and also Volume II, containing other material recordedover the 2 nights at the Cellar Door. Not sure what the release date is yet.

Big Mo is offering FOR FREE a version of Danny & Buddy doing When Sunny Gets Blue, from that same gig. http://store.yahoo.com/bigmo/dannygattoncds.html

As far as I know, "Redneck Jazz" was released in 1978 and had 8 or 9 tracks when it came out. I have a Cd version from 1991 or so, on the NRG label, and it has two bonus tracks for a total of 10 cuts. "Redneck Jazz Explosion" was recorded live on Dec. 31, 1978 and I have a copy also on NRG. I believe it came out in 1995 and contains 11 tracks. If these are not available, I guess that's proof that we should buy as many Cd's now, because if they're that cool, they will go out of print soon!
Good luck

The NRG Records CD release I have ( I think the one from Danny's site) has 11 tracks from the Dec 31 1978 Cellar Door recording.

Not to encourage what may be bootlegging, but there are frequent Ebay offerings of a set of 3 Cds from that live date from 12/30-31 1978. I've seen them called "The Orphans" set.
There's also another set of 3 Cds from a date at the Birchmere on 6-100-1988.

Buddy is astounding on both. Some of the real treasures are the tunes that didn't make the official CD, when Danny goes off the deep end, and Buddy goes... at least as deep! Wonderful stuff, two geniuses having a blast.
