I would like to amen what you guys said about all the great performances at Dallas and the big screen and the good people. I would like to add that if you do not attend the church service you are missing a treat. One suggestion I would make is that we move Austin Stewart into a better slot. More people need to see this kid. He really smoothed out since last year and if he makes that much progress next year, he's gonna be up there with some of the biggies. Thanks to Albert and Debbie, they treat you like their own family. |

I am sure it won't be long until Austin will be getting his own slot on the shows. Jody. [This message was edited by Jody Sanders on 14 March 2006 at 09:23 PM.] |

Danny, Thank you for your kind words in suport of Austin. We wanted to thank everyone who got up early and came down to hear Austin and Dad. I know it's hard on all of you who stay up so late, to make it down so early. We really appreciate the efforts of those who made it. We are, of course, just glad to have a spot anywhere in such a great event. Thanks to everyone.

Dana, We visited with Austin and Jerry one evening while they were putting strings on. Austin was a perfect gentleman and answered our questions in a courteous and kind manner. I know all who know him are proud to do so.I'm just afraid Jerry may bust wide-open if he gets any prouder.LOL
Good Luck to all. RG |

Rodney,
I am glad to hear he was a gentleman. It's very hard for him to talk to people he doesn't know, but we are working on him. My husband and I were just discussing this morning, how the comments about him being a gentleman and well behaved, make us more proud than the comments about his picking. We are extremely proud of his picking, but it's more important that he is respectful. Thank you for letting us know how he behaved. And yes, Papa is VERY proud Austin.

Dana, you and your husband should be proud of your son. It is rare to find young people now days with respect and good manners. I have talked with Austin a number of times over the past few years in Dallas and he is ALWAYS polite and respectful with a bit of shyness. You have done a great job instilling his good manners. In my opinion, his wonderful talent is just enhanced by his attitude. I feel blessed to know the Newberry and Stewart families. |

Thanks James. Any parent is always glad to hear comments like that. We are very proud of our children. It's always nice to know they are respectful even when we are not around.

I don't want to leave PaPa Jerry out. He's a pretty good ole boy too. He showed me a Hal Rugg lick in the Mullin room and didn't even charge me for it. |

Hi Ron. The boys will be back at Barling this weekend. Austin always looks forward to being there. I am sure you guys had quite a treat with Mr. Jerry Roller though.
Danny, you are right, we should not leave out Dad. Austin would not be able to do what he does without Papa. Of course, as his parents, we sure like that Papa provides all that expensive equipment too.

I had occasion to talk a little with Austen in the Mullen room, and I'll echo what others said about him. A nice young man and a big talent.

AUSTIN STEWART....For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to hear Austin, you should do so at your first opportunity. WOW...what a great young player. I have had the pleasure of working with him many, many times over the past years and each time I'm on stage with him I see a definite improvement over the previous appearance.
So very much of what Austin has accomplished, in my opinion, from beginning to now, is due to his grandfather Jerry Newberry's influence, who, in his own right, is a great player. "Thanks" granddad.
There is a time when the "young" must leave the nest and I think that time has come for Austin. I totally agree that Austin should have his own slot on the steel shows he attends.
From this piano player to that young steel player friend of mine, you are welcome on my stage anytime.
It has been mine and Barbara's pleasure to watch Austin mature into the super young player he is.
We love ya Austin and we love your mom, dad and grandparents.

Both boys are good because they have chosen to follow good leaders. They are so blessed to have good families. Dana hit the nail on the head. She knows what's important, what the boy 'is' above what he can do. When you've got a good kid you've got something wonderful. But if he can pick too, your big smile just gets a little bigger. SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS!
I noticed that Jonathon has improved his playing by leaps and bounds between last year and this year. And last year he was good already! I noticed Austin improved too but what I also noticed was he's becoming more comfortable talking with people. He's just growing up. (After all, he's almost 12, right? LOL)

Hi Lavelle. Austin sure does love to swim. He made it through last summer with the pool and didn't forget too awfully much of what he learned. LOL.
Leila, Austin will be 12 in June. You are right, both boys have good people to teach them. Dad (Jerry Newberry) is pretty much Austin's best friend. If a mom can have her son and her father be best friends, she has very little to worry about with that son. Don't tell Dad I said that though. I want him to keep thinking I am a mother bear. LOL.
Austin and Jonathan took to each other from the very beginning. They could have been competitive, but instead chose to be friends and they genuinely look forward to seeing each other at the shows. They exchange cards and pictures in between times. Jonathan's family are very enjoyable to be with. We enjoy getting to know more about them at each show. |
