Just wondering who's the guy playing fiddle and steel on the Craig Ferguson show tonite. I can't place the face but he looked familiar and was playing a single neck MSA, I think. Brett, any idea?

I don't know for sure but James Pennebaker has been doing some work with him when he's not with Big & Rich. James plays both fiddle & steel but he plays a green Carter SD-10.

Thanks Guys. No flames here James. It's great that he has steel [and fiddle] in the band. I thought it was a good performance. Sorry about the mis-ID on the axe. I didn't get a good shot of the label.

Also enjoy your work with Gretchen, Gaylon.

Thanks to these folks for keeping a steel player employed.

Question has been answered...you can close this topic at any time, boss.

This is kinda waaaaaaaaay after the fact but, I wanted to tell James Pennebaker that my band West Of Nowhere played at Cheyenne Frontier Days last year when you were there with Big and Rich.

What an UNFREAKINBELIEVEABLE band! I know all steel players wonder how they sound out front but I have to say your tone and playing was as good as it gets.

I went out to the midway to walk around and it was like you were coming out of everywhere that night.

You have a dream job my friend!

I think that it's great when you have a sound man that makes sure the steel is "up there". I went to a gig once, primarily to listen to a friend play but the only way I could hear it was to sit next to him near his amp; talk about frustration, I know I'm getting old and my hearing isn't as acute anymore but I don't think that it's that bad. I sometimes wonder if people in the business are aware of the difficulty in playing the instrument and just how important the steel is when selling a song. This guy, IMO, is one of the best in this area.

James, I'm going to be watching the 16th, primarily to see and listen to you; hope that you get a chance to hit a few "hot licks", my friend.

The "Big&Rich/Cowboy Troy" band has as much sheer ENERGY as any band I've seen lately---And I haven't even seen 'em live.
