It looks like Norm Hamlet, behind his green Rus-Ler. [This message was edited by Larry Petree on 13 February 2006 at 08:55 AM.] |

That is I on the green Rus-Ler done in the 80's when Barbara invited Joe Maphis , Merle Travis, and Gordon Terry on her show to show appreciation for the help we had given her when she was getting in the busines. I started giving her lessons on steel when she was 9 years old going on 10. The other steeler on the show was her steel player Mike(cookie monster) Jones, and a great player. Norm Hamlet |

This was filmed in April of 1982, at Sunset Gower Studio's in LA CA. It was a honor to play with my idol Norm Hamlett and Joe Maphis and Merle Travis. The band was Randy Wright on drums, Charlie Bundy on Bass. Gene Miller on guitar and Gary Smith and Lonnie Webb on keys. What a blast from the past. Bab's played pretty good steel herself.

Thanks Drew for giving me the idea to look for Barbara Mandrell on You Tube. Here's what I found on her:

WOW! She's incredible
By the way: notice the obviously custom Emmons she's playing - How's that for a pretty steel and player combo?[This message was edited by Duane Reese on 21 February 2006 at 05:12 PM.] |

That is great footage and I forgot how hard Joe Maphis rips! He would give many modern tele shredders a run for their money. He seems to be having a great time in this video as well. |
