Jay, thanks for posting the link. That was nothing short of fantastic! I've noticed where Martina will be appearing at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica MS in the next couple months or so, and doing songs from the "Timeless" CD.

The tickets are like $100.00 bucks a pop, but for music this good, I'm about ready to pay it!

I've also got this CD, and it's one of the best I've heard in a long time.

Kinda off topic, but I read in the liner notes of the CD that Pete Drake was the steel player on Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden". I was surprised, as I always thought that was probably Lloyd Green. Pete did pretty good on that one, to just be a pedal masher.

This was the Opry show when the Martina Timeless CD came out.

She did the full hour , as Larry King would say..

I'm thinking some of you must have been asleep...

This was all over the forum for at least a week up to, on and after the Opry broadcast...10/22/05

not the video..the conversation...plus there were I believe as many as 3 maybe 4 reruns of the same show in the days following the initial show. Say hello to Mr VHS or DVD reccorder.

there are actually two versions of this show, one with the recording band, and one with her own touring band..both excellent. Lots of Paul time and Wayne time...

I was just reading above where someone commented about Bruce Bouton's solo's being replaced by a Guitar...

Which one's and by who ?

Far as I can tell, One Way Rider, Heartbroke, Hwy 40 Blues etc. are still the premier Steel guitar phrases that capture everyones attention..they have not been replaced by a Guitar..never heard of that...but it is possible that if a NEW era Steel player does not play them, the Guitar player will.

I call those BB solo's the hard line dividing line..it separates Steel players into two era's in my book..

Both acceptable and totally OK..

The Pre Ricky Skaggs era and the Post Ricky Skaggs era...todays modern Steel player on the bandstand should have a foot in both era's...

I have never bought into this NEW Country thing as being a bad deal for Steelers..if you listen behind the singers on many of the tunes there is some great stuff going on...true, in many cases not in your face, but non the less.it is still there and still on record..

I hear the BB influence on many of todays records..by many great players...

As Steel players on the Bandstand we should play and understand the roots of Way to Survive ..but also..

play and understand the Roots of Hwy 40 Blues...

and execute both....

Like the video above..PF can go backwards in time to day one..emulate the original recordings, but at the same time merge 2006 ( well 2005 at the time ) into the mix...

thats why he is PF....

I'm pretty sure the solo in question was on "Still the One" by Shania.. It featured mostly single string work with plenty of vibrato and volumes swell.. I personally dug it !.. though many on the forum at the time disapproved of it being "outside traditional parameters".. if you know what I mean.

Actually , I don't even know what a Bellweather is....

I stated that I personally draw the line between Pre Skaggs and Post Skaggs...

and I also stated both periods were excellent..no diss on either ..

What I stated was that a Steeler who plays on the Bandstand today should have a foot in both camps.

Don't take it to mean anything other than it's my own opinion...my own observation..

I commented that PF was easily able to play across both era's that I defined in my own terms.

I call it the Way to Survive era and the HWY 40 Blues era...to state that they are both the same in my mind would not be accurate.

it's my opinion..take it, leave it..or ignore it..

Around the DC area, it was a guitar solo played on guitar, at least on the cross over radio stations.

Tony, my apologies for confusing you. Let me state in simpler terms that I, for one, find it odd that you would choose Scaggs as to where to draw the dividing line between old school/new school steel styles. I've never given even a passing thought as to which 'era' the players style was derived from.
