Thanks for posting this, nice to see such a great close up with good sound. Jimmy looks like he's about 17 years old.

Beautiful custom Gibson guitar that Price is playing!!
The thing that impressed me the most about Day is when he lays out on the last verse of the tune. All you guys out there who think that you have to "noodle" through the entire tune--take note of what a master does. |

Bill your right on ! Laying out and back is part of being a great player. I record all my rehersals and then listen back to what's good and bad and so many times if I would of just played the chord or nothing at all, it would of sounded better then that damn chicken pick'n. The Ray Price DVD is a great example of playing behind the singer at the right volume with the right amount of stuff going on. Less is more ! |

Very cool! But is nobody going to point out that it's obviously a "lip-synch", and not live...?
Still fun to watch though, and Jimmy did play on the record, right? At least he's miming his own parts... |

Thanks, I never got to see the Master Jimmy Day play. I think I saw him at the 1st TSGA jam I attended. When I went to Jeff's Top Gun class in 2003, he said listening to the Steel and Strings was mandatory before we finished the 3 day class.

Does anybody REALLY care if it's lip synch? Damn, I'd watch a vintage clip of Jimmy Day even if it was him just making a sandwich or tying his shoes. |

It looks unsynchronized because the video is so compressed. |

That's right Earnest, that clip is a studio live, not "lip synched". I have it on a video tape, along with a couple of other tracks. And though you can't see him on that clip, it's Willie Nelson on bass!! [This message was edited by Jussi Huhtakangas on 02 February 2006 at 10:18 PM.] |

It seems pretty in-synch to me until Jimmy's solo; it looks like he's playing kinda different stuff that what you're hearing...
I'd be the last one to judge that though (I've been there); it's very a cool pice of footage, no judgement intended, just an observation...
The Conway/Loretta/John Hughey clip on the other hand is obviously live and sounds fantastic! |

Video that old probably should be put thru a TBC (time base corrector) before it's compressed. If the audio slips by only a few frames you get that "lip sync" condition.
It can be fixed with an editor, but it's a pain. |
