I knew a steel player there in Memphis in the 70's. His name was Aubrey.I cannot think of his last name at this time.I'll have to look in some old address books.
[This message was edited by Fred Jack on 01 February 2006 at 09:01 AM.]

Billy, ask your friend to mail me, i'm just outside Memphis,I would like to meet him.
There's a few pickers here, I'll introduce him.

Fred, the guy you're talking about is Aubry Rice, he's some where in Ala. ??

I lived in Memphis for 17 years (just recently moved to Mt Juliet, TN) and the only steel playing I know of is a 1st Saturday of the month Jam at the Old IH Union hall in Frasyer, a feller named Cowboy (played with Hank, Jr) that plays at Hernando's Hideaway or Bad Bob's if either are still open and then a friend of mine named James Murray who plays around some. Contact forum member Skip Cole to get more info on the Saturday Jam. Good Luck!

Fred,you're very welcome ,
Aubry is a good friend I met in the 60's,who just kinda faded in the sunRise,,East. from here anyway,
We see him ever so often when he ventures up from Ala.
He still has that ole D-12 Sho~Bud finger-tip
With his name in the middle of the front apron with Pearl inlay, sharp guitar.

Howdy Chris,
I can't recall running into you,,sorry about that, I thought I knew every steel player in Memphis. We always made all of them feel welcome here.
The International Harvester Union hall has been a family country music show since Waaay back,20 or so years.,and still is.

However, we did use it to have our steel Jam there every 3 mos. on the 1st Sat. in the daytime.

Cowboy Eddie Long did come to One of our jams after we moved to the Strand Theatre in Millington,, great pikker.Has a good CD
named,"I've been everywhere".

Hernando's Hide-a-way is still here but not much country music there anymore, due to the great invention, called 'Karry-yokee' !

Bad Bob's has been gone from here for a
lotta years !!

There are a lot of steel players here.
Come visit me at my shop when you can,I'm sorry I didn't get to met you.

I'm sure Skip might have something to add to this,,,,,,Skip,, where are you ??

Thanks for mentioning those old places Chris, brings back memories ,some good ,some bad.
I've spent a lot of late hrs. in most of those !!
Kenny
