For the last few weeks I have been working on switching the roles for my Steel and
Country Gent. A new tune I recorded to-day features the Pedal Steel playing backup
chord padding Trac 1 and my CG dubbed in on Trac 2 playing the melody line. I call it " Back Up For A Gent "
The tuning on my Steel is the Leavitt utilizing seven strings high to low:
D--C--Bb--G--E--C#--G
The set up I developed for this tuning incorporates two pedals and four knee levers.
I have more to do but the chord patterns
are nice and accessable when just dealing with seven strings. I do plan on adding
an E on the bottom to complete the tuning

Sounds great Roy. After a while I was wondering how you blocked the chord chops and left the bass notes ringing. Very effective. Did you need to use the pedals and knees very often? Seems to me those voicings are already in the tuning, except for the low notes of course. Why an extra G and E on the bottom? Do the knees change them for other needed roots?

Hello Mike,
I am using a thumb pick but no finger picks
on that recording to make the low end notes
project. The fingers are blocking strings
as the chords are played but the thumb does not. It is the same technique as classical
guitar.
Pedals(2) and knee levers (4) are used extensively in the arrangement. This limits the bar movement requirements. For instance
65% of those "chomps" are open strings. You do not hear pedal and knee lever changes as I do not play the chord until after they are engaged.
The low G string is very useful and I have
a half tone lower for it on a lever.
I have not added the E as yet but it's coming
soon because I want to be able to transcribe
from standard guitar music/arrangements.
This is an interesting hobby for me and I am
looking for a single 10 with 3/5. If I find it I will just put eight strings on to start.

Hi Roy, Great job. As smooth as ever. I was wonder if you could repost the mp3 you did a few weeks ago for "MAPUANA". I lost it when my computer when down last week.I was tying to learn it on the Eharp. I would greatly apprediate it.
