I prefer to think of myself as "horizontally enhanced"
I dropped about 70 pounds last year, but as soon as I relaxed it all came back.

Steel playing is a sitting job - the situation would be better if we could practice while running, swimming or biking!

Boy, am I in that category, I must be at least 75 to 80lbs overweight. My wife keeps reminding me of that too!! My job is teaching & selling, so I too do a lot of sitting & not enough exercise. Hum, maybe this year I will start that diet from last year!!

I am about 50 pounds overweight, and have begun taking testosterone replacement suppliments.
You know, it all makes sense when you think that most of us never had a weight problem until we got older, and the andropause (male menopause) symptoms started kicking in.
If a guy can get his hormones back in "high gear" then you look and feel better. Heck, might even feel like exercising again.
Wish us all luck, being fat is a drag.

I hear you Jim. My problem is that for the last 15 months I have been taking drugs to eliminate the testosterone as treatment for prostate cancer. Last year I gained about 25 pounds. I used to be a skinny guy, but now I have a well-developed spare tire around my waist. But I am gaining (or should I say losing) on it. I have started reducing my caloric intake and exercising regularly. So far this year I have lost 2 pounds. Only 23 to go to get back to my pre-surgery weight.

Charlie Mc Donald you are right there. IT IS TOUGH WHEN YOUR WIFE IS A GOOD COOK> MY WIFE THINKS SHE IS STILL COOKING FOR HER EX AND OLDEST DAUGHTER. She said they ate enough for three people each. Well I keep telling her after 18 years of our marriage that I'm only one person. I gained about 26 pounds and I need to loose it as I have a Colestrol problem and I love to eat all the great food that I'm not supose to.I walk when the weather is warmer than now in the winter. I walk every Wedensday when we go grocerie Shopping. I walk around two large stores while my wife does the shopping but the weight does not want to go down.I may have lost a couple of pounds since Christmas.

Allen, many people don't understand the problems cause by hormones ... at least men don't understand that well.
We all like to complain to women when their hormones are "out of balance", but guys don't "get it".
Anyway, I hope you and the prostate problem get well soon. We're all gonna be rooting for you!

well i got you all beat i weigh about 400 pounds. i put on a lot of weight after a accident that left me in a wheel chair most of the time for a few years. last year i dicided to do something about it. i play on loosing 100 pounds within the next year. and another 50 pounds the year after that. my family is inclined to be heavy set anyhow. some people are ment to be skinny and others are not. well i have made a decission and studdied the problem for a while and it is not going on a diet but setting a way of life. i am for the most part going to have to be careful of what i eat and i will always have to exercise in some shape way fashion or form. i am limiting myself to 800 calaries a day and there will be some days that i will do 1000 but its just something that has to be done. my weight is starting to effect my health so it is either do it and get r done or get ready for the lillies. i just turned 59 sunday and i am not ready to go yet. god has a lot of things for me to do before i leave this world. think about it. doc

A year ago it took me (old dude) five months to lose about 18 pounds. I avoided carbs and McDonalds during this time to do this, thinking that if I lost a little more I might be able to carry a D10 but lately I've put about 6 back on. I have no trouble doing push-ups up the ying-yang but this thing with my lower spine is hard to defeat. Our small grandchildren like to eat at McDonalds and there lies the problem.

I did a topic a few years ago called "Steel Player, the Fat Guy in the Band" or something like that and it's true. Most steel players anymore are "Porkers" myself included! I'm 6'4" tall but I weigh in at 272 lbs. When I played music full time I usually stayed between 210 and 225 lbs and felt great. I'd love to lose about 50 lbs. right now as it's hard to tie my shoes or anything that requires bending over! Most of my weight seems to be in the belly area and I know that's not good.....JH in Va.

+50, maybe +70. My spine is pretty much fried too. I've already had my neck fused, and as far as day-to-day health goes, all exercise is bad exercise - it's just wearing out the rest of my discs that much faster. I used to be really skinny, hyper and athletic - unfortunately that's how I wore the bugger out, I'm afraid. I don't eat junk, but I sure do like my own cooking. Anybody else's too, for that matter.
