We have a lot of Texas STEELPLAYERS on this forum and I just have to congratulate the Longhorns for a great win. I am a diehard Razorback fan and after years of rivalry with the Longhorns I had developed certain feeling toward the Longhorns but they sure were something tonight. I believe Vince Young is the best college quarterback I have ever seen, at least he appeared to be tonight. I guess this is not the place for this but maybe some Texans will see it before it gets locked up.

wow....I've got carpet burns on my knees and the palms of both hands. Most amazing performance I have ever seen by any quarterback. Congratulations also to USC for displaying such dignity and class and for playing such a great game.

One of the greatest football games I've ever witnessed. Bar none. All Texans should be proud of this great team and Vincent Young. And no other team could have challenged the Longhorns as well and as closely as the USC Trojans. Watching all these players give 110% all night, these two teams are both real champions.

Hook'em.

As a USC alum, I say hats off to the Longhorns. Both teams were great and deserved to win, but Texas made fewer mistakes and had Vince Young, one of the greatest quarterbacks I've ever seen.

Two great teams and one great football game. There was no way I would have bet on either team tonight. Way too close of a match-up.

So, how long will it take to get all those fans out of the stadium and out of the parking lot?

Yessir. Vince Young is quite an athlete. He really "stepped-up" for this game and his team. Great game.

Well Growing up here in Austin and my Dad taking me to every home game since I was 5 years old(that's almost 40 years of tradition for me); and remembering walking through the Campus all the way to the stadium with those big ole binoculars hangin' round my neck just in AWE of this great University> all I can say is:
"HOOK'EM HORNS"

While I do not watch as much sports as I use to, it was very nice to see Texas earn an undisputed National Title. Vince is an awesome athelete to say the least. I thought the extra point that was missed was going to come back and haunt Texas but they played a great game. USC will send a few guys from their team to the pros this upcoming draft and justly so. They had a great run and I would bet they will still be a great team next year just as Texas will. "Hook Em Horns"

WOO HOO! NAT'L CHAMPS for the first time since I was in college there. It's been a long wait. I was up, I was down, it looked hopeless, but a great game.

Matt Leinart looks to be the next big NFL quarterback, you can tell he's got what it takes. But when Vince stands in the pocket and then runs across the goal line, there's nothing better. The relatively low scoring says a lot about the defense on both teams.
HOOK 'EM!

{And I remember the years of rivalry between Texas and Arkansas, Jerry. Produced some really great games, and you never knew who'd win.)

WOW! What a ballgame. Both teams were just great last night. I'm sure in 5 or 6 years we will be watching ALL of these guys in pro bowls and super bowls in the NFL. Bith teams loaded with talent.

Yes, Vince Young was a man among boys.

Man, that was one of the most entertaining football games I have seen in a long time.

Those might have been the two most talented college football teams ever to take the field.

Vince Young was just awesome!

How about that airborne touchdown by Reggie Bush? I was hoping the once proud 49ers would lose to the Houston Texans last Sunday so that they would have a shot at drafting Reggie, but the idiots beat the Texans in overtime, so odds are Reggie Bush will be a Houston Texan this fall-unless they trade the 1st pick for a couple of other high choices.

I got to watch all of it on my friends HD television. It was a great game. I really thought USC was going to come out the second half and do some damage. The Longhorns sure kept # 5 in check!. Congratulations to the great state of Texas. It was a very good game.

What a game!!Anyones game thruout but the way the Longhorns pulled it out was awesome, and I say Longhorns as a team, not just Vince. Sometimes all we see is what one man is contibuting, but as unbelievable as he is he had some great protection on the line and blocking when he ran. MVP for sure but what a great team effort. Sad to see either of those teams lose....but not really. GO LONGHORNS

I am a UT grad. Was great to see this Rose Bowl win. I used to be able to hear the stadium noise (cannon) at my apartment when I lived in Austin. I am also fortunate enough to have graduated from Penn State and the Orange Bowl was sweet also. These two games wore me out, just from sitting on a couch. I did practice steel during the halftimes though.

I was at UT when Earl Campbell was the big man on campus... but this victory is bigger than anything from that era. Huge!

Congrats from a Roll Tide fan!!! What an entertaining, fun game to watch. My hat is off to the Longhorns and the Trojans. A clash of Titans. It was awesome to watch.

I missed the game. Now, before this thread gets locked up for being off topic, we need the name of a football player that plays the steel guitar. Maybe just a football player that knows what a steel guitar is would work.

I'm sure Robert Randolph is well known amongst many college football players of today's generation.

I grew up 30 miles from L.A., in Anaheim, and have to admit favoring USC. That said, I'm not a diehard SC fan and was thrilled to see TX pull off the upset in such grand fashion. SC never did figure out what to do about the power and speed of Vince Young.

Congratulations all you Longhorn fans.

The 4 big Bowl games this week were all great-- none decided by more than a TD. How about JoePa and Penn State in tripple OT?

Speaking of Earl Campbell, he's a country music fan. When he had a restaurant on 6th St. in Austin, Pete Mitchell and I would occasionally play there. Earl did like the steel guitar and actually once asked me about lessons, but it never amounted to anything.

Sad thing is, Earl is now wheelchair bound much of the time. His hips and knees have been destroyed by the constant beatings he took on the field. When I played at his restaurant/bar, he walked with a severe limp, but now I believe his condition has deteriorated to where he needs a wheelchair to get around.

He was an amazing athlete as well, of course.

I thought last night's game looked more like a pro football game than a college game. The caliber of playing was scary on both sides, perhaps the finest I've ever seen in college ball.

Well, you can imagine they've been riding high in Happy Valley all week. My regular Tuesday night gig was cancelled, and everybody was pretty groggy Wednesday morning.

Seriously, I teach at Penn State, and what is unusual about Joe is that he cuts no slack for his athletes on academics. They are all expected to maintain a reasonable average. I kid you not, I've taught some of them - electrical engineering and information sciences - over the last 17 years. I don't know how he does it, but I wish he could bottle it and distribute it to the NCAA.

Herb, That is awful news about Earl Campbell. He was just wore out from running and taking all the hits down through the years. Earl was not only a great runner but a great human being as well. I consider him to be the best running back the Longhorns have ever had. He never got to play in a Super Bowl which to me is a shame.
