....the great Johnny Paycheck. Lots of bluesy steel in it. Who was the player? Good stuff. Oops typo...I meant 29 Days!

It was Murph. I met those guys in the matador lounge in Anchorage AK when I was playing up there in 1979. They were playing the Alaska state fair. It was Murph for sure. |

Guys, Curley Chalker did that one cut with Paycheck... As far as I know it's the only tune Curls ever recorded with him... And yes, Lloyd did play C6th at one time..

Whoops! Thanks Mike! I hadn't remembered the song, but was just going by the time period it was recorded, which was an especially busy time for Lloyd, and had recorded with Johnny on several occasions. |

Bobbe Seymour once told me that Paycheck himself was more than a fair hand at steel guitar.

It's been a long time since I heard that. It always perked my ears up because it was definately Curly doing the honors on the C6 as only he could do, and yes, I also believe it's the only cut he did with Paycheck. |

I know Doug Jernigan worked with him for a while. I have a video tape of him with Paycheck, doing that song. Doing a great job of course. |

Red Kilby has that song on his album with Dicky Overby and I think Ralph Mooney on it. Talk about some great steel along with some great singing. Also Lloyd Green takes a good ride on the Tribute to Paycheck album that was cut a couple of years ago. I don't remember who the singer is but Lloyd captures to essense of the song armed only with his trusty E9th neck. |
