Which of the two is this player? OR, is it someone else? This has to be a pedal steel, correct, as they can only play certain things like western swing, rock and "speed pickin'" , right? It's most likely E9th then, correct?
But where are the chromatics? His RIGHT Hand is obviously well developed or he couldn't be doin' all this, eh? And yet listen to those diminish runs! I'm puzzled.
Any of you newbies care to venture a guess?

I'm with Eric on this. However I'd have to hear the tune.

Lloyd Green told me that that at one time Buddy could pull the strings from behind the bar and make it sound as slick as if he was using pedals for the old A&B pedal sound. For you newbies this was done with one pedal in the old days and they didn't have the high G# we use today.............bb

Ray:

Assuming you are referring to the vocal recording of Panhandle Rag on the "about Ray" page, that is Smokey Rogers with Joaquin Murphey. But, I'm guessing you already knew that?

Ray ..Please don't take this as negative, but why don't you post the relevant links when you refer to a player or a particular tune?
I find it just a little frustrating as I'm sure do others who just cant get up the courage to say so..

Baz

I don't think you should "Put Down" my comments so readily..
I have seen posts from you with links at least to the site if not the page!
LIKE THIS http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum2/HTML/008076.html

You are doing YOURSELF a disservice by not posting links.. your first message under this post is incomplete to all but those who ALREADY know , you don't even refer to a site name or indicate as to where it is !
If , as you claim, you're not very computer "Au Fait" then at least intimate in some way.. I see no such help for the casual reader or newbie that you refer to in this ...

As for how to include links, we ALL had to learn how to do it,
go to the top right hand side of the browser and underneath where it says
"The Steel Guitar Forum
profile | join | preferences | help | search"
Click on "HELP"
OR... highlight the URL referred to, in the address bar of your browser and "Copy/Paste" it into your posting.

I wouldn't have a clue, but I was blown away by the third bar of the intro! It should be illegal for a guy to play a steel guitar as fast as Les Paul.

I took the post to be a psychic thing or an inside joke I'd never get. So it was great to be able to hear the tune.
Bloody amazing!

Ray I just heard the clip. Thanks for sharing. Even though this is not Joaquin's best work.Joaquin and Buddy Emmons are the only two I've heard that could phrase fast single string lines this way.I dig it.

Basilh: I think you're being a little hard on Ray. Maybe just be happy to get to hear the tune?? There was no prize for winning the contest.

Bobby, you're missing the point, I am glad to get to hear the tune, but finding it was far from easy? and if I HADN'T posted the links, WHO else would have missed out on this contribution by Ray.
I Glad to help point the way ..

Basil.........I APPRECIATE your comments and I do value them. I simply didn't know how to do that. To my recollection, I have never posted any such link as I didn't/don't know to do it. I likewise don't know how to post photo's with the simplicity many of these fine Forumites do. I WISH I DID!
I'll attempt to follow your instructions to the "T" and hopefully, more fine folks will be able to hear what I consider to be classic steel guitar but who know, I could be wrong.
Brad has been kind enough to post here on the Forum.......on my behalf and without solicitation, how to get there, but yes, in reality, it is my obligation and I will attempt to correct my errant ways. THANK YOU

Ray If ever you need a link to pictures, mp3's or other files, just e-mail me the details and I'd be only too glad to help you.

Yes, we would all appreciate some context, Ray. Your topic-starting post did not even name the tune. It's hard to figure out what it's about. There's no clue:

I happen to know from experience that most if not all of your posts are about Jerry Byrd and some piece of music that Microsoft Internet Explorer users can hear at www.jerrybyrdfanclub.com - but "newbies" wouldn't know that.

Thanks, Baz, for posting a link to the actual music. That's an incredible jazz steel ride!
