Just in from Bruce Clarke and Cumquat Records:

quote:

The prospective sale of Bruce Clarke’s massive library of Hawaiian Steel Guitar Music

The library consists of hundreds of TAB arrangements in all tunings.

Arranged for 6, 8 & 10 string instruments plus parts for two rhythm guitars and bass.

Included in the 500 plus handwritten manuscripts are:-

20 by Andy Iona,

Most of Sol Hooipi’s famous instrumentals,

Many transcriptions of Dick McIntire, Bobby Nichols & Andy Iona records,

Most of Jerry Byrd’s charts.

The library breaks down into several sections - the rhythm parts and bass parts are in alphabetical order in spinal bound books.

The steel parts come in three large volumes with the TAB charts in alphabetical order - making it easy for onstage usage.

For practise purposes the steel parts also come in book form separated into different tunings - for example…

One collects all A major low & high bass tunings together. Another contains arrangements based in C6th & its many variants. Another has all E type tunings (E9, E13, C#m7 etc).

A sample page of the handwritten style is attached.

The Full library is for sale for $2000.00AUD plus shipping.

The purchaser could - if he felt so inclined - computerise all but the Jerry Byrd charts, and sell them to steel players around the world. Making a good profit on his initial investment.

Maybe we should pool our money. Like sell stock at $100 a share.
This could work

Wow! To have those Andy Iona, Bobby Nichols, Dick McIntire, and Sol Hoopii transcriptions would be awesome! I just hope it goes to someone who will (and could) duplicate the arrangements for the rest of us!

I wonder if the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association of Honolulu, Hawaii would be interested?

It is just a thought.

That's a great idea, Don. I have all the Jerry Byrd tabs, but I'd love to have a copy of the other steel tabs.

Just in from "Down Under" ...

quote:

A local steeler walked in & took it away.

One day when he comes to grips with it all, he intends to market it - how, when & in what format is all up to him.

He is willing to be contacted by all the nice guys that originally showed an interest so

I'm forwarding the email he sent me when he opened the boxes.
