There ought to be a basic spelling and English (or in this case Spanish) test before people are allowed to participate in the internet.

And of course, no-one will be allowed to make an honest mistake. I mean, c'mon. They missed it by 2 letters. Some people can't even pronounce my last name correctly. Gar-Nett.
Besides, Joaquin is pronounced "hWaa-Keen". How would you spell it phonetically?

Maybe I'll send a note to Danny McKinney. He really knows his amps, but apparently has a bit of a problem with spelin.

Well, I've seen the original "butcher paper list" of those Standel amps and I'm not surprised if some of the names on the website are spelled little weird; 45 year old pencil writing on a greasy paper, ouch. I didn't check it too closely then though, I was too busy marveling Merle Travis' original red Standel and Joe Maphis' little pink & black amp that Danny had there for service  [This message was edited by Jussi Huhtakangas on 11 October 2005 at 10:48 PM.] |

I saw Tommy Turman's name on the butcher paper list as a demonstrator. Ran into Tommy this past weekend. Wish I had seen this list prior. Would have been a good nostalgic conversation.
Two weeks ago I got to play through Kenny Dyer's new Standel made exactly as the originals. What a great sounding amp. Kenny's is white and turquois....absolutely gorgeous.

Pat,
I worked with Danny on voicing Kens amp for him after he got it. You're right, it is an amazing looking, and even better sounding amp. Danny is a great guy to deal with, and really understands the 'tone' thing. I would love to have one of these amps....I guess the next best thing would be to haul my Dekley up to Kens house and give it a try....but then I know I'd want to (have to) get one.

I have this geek-thing for all these "original owners-lists", especially Standels and Bigsbys and Tommy Turman's name is on both of them. I don't know much about him, except heard he's a great guitar player and played with either Tommy or Glynn Duncan. Care to comment anyone?
And to stay on the topic, I believe that picture of Joaquin was taken at the Riverside Rancho. |

| If you look on the list he had in his garage of people who were using Standel amps you'll see Buddy Emmons with the words "unknown" after it. Sure was an early list. Proves we're all unknown at one time or another. |

I played with Tommy Turman when I went in the WSS HoF back in 2003, thanks to Tommy Thomsen. He's a fine guitarist to this day. He and his wife own a couple nursing homes in the San Diego area, and he's a great guy.

| Jussi, I knew Tommy Turman in the 50s when he was with Smokey Rogers at the Bostonia Ball Room. I was with the band that opened up to Westerner in National City. Tommy was a master then. |

Mike, the amps in the picture are ca.57-58. You might be right about the club, I was suspecting Riverside Rancho since the stage looks similar and that wagon wheel with Tex' picture in it is what was also at the Rancho. Oh well...
