I'm going back some time ago. Does anybody remember Doyle Grisson who played with Roy Drusky back in the date 60's. I may be spelling his last name wrong, but I think its close. Just wanted to see if he is still playing, etc.
Thanks. Rick Anderson

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Doyle play on a lot of the Randy Travis hit songs, when Randy started his recording career? |

I just saw Doyle playing with Jimmy Buffett last week at the Katrina Benefit show at Madison Square Garden. He sounded great and had a great solo. Sonny Landreth also was with the band and sounded great. I just wished they hadn't let Bet Midler open her mouth nor give Slick Willie the micophone, they both ruined the evening. I paid to help the relief and hear music, not to be preached to.

Steve, Doyle played on Randy Travis hits like "1982", "Forever and Ever, Amen" and
"On the Other Hand". He was also the steel player on the Hemphill's version of the gospel song "Consider the Lilies". |

Steve, yes Doyle played on Randy's hits when he started. Doyle played an Emmons steel for awhile and then he switched to GFIs. He's been Jimmy Buffett's steel player for awhile now. "Door Number Three" written by JB and Steve Goodman and performed most tastefully with Doyle remains among my favorite cuts.

Hi Rick,
I remember seeing Doyle play here in Glasgow with Tompal and the Glaser Brothers in 1980. On the same bill were Jimmy C. Newman and the Cajun Band who had a very young (18 year old)Terry Wendt on steel, Wanda Jackson and appearing as a star in his own right - Lloyd Green who was amazing. I remeber saying to myself that Doyle would go a long way and not long after that saw his name on the credits of Randy Travis LP's. |

Thanks everyone for the info on Doyle,
I worked on some show a few times with Doyle in the late 60's I was a drummer at that time. He was with Roy Drusky, and I beleive poky was drummer for Roy. I think poky has sence passed away. It brings back some memories I'll never forget.
Thanks again.

Hey Rick:
Doyle worked the road with Lynn Anderson for awhile in the early 80s too. We did some shows with them in various places. Always a great player and a great guy. I guess he really digs the gig with Jimmy B. They pick up his gear at his house and then bring it all back home for him before and after the show trips. He never has to lug the stuff. Most of the trips are fly trips too I'm told.
Hope you're well my friend. I'll have to get out to see you one of these days when I'm not gigin' with The Commander, bass-fishing or messing with the new model railroad I'm now building. Paul told me a couple weeks ago that you said to say hello. Thanks man.
Your buddy,
Chris "Tiny" O. |

Doyle lives here in town and picks regulary up at the long hollow jamboree in Goodletsville (out in the sticks)He plays up there with Jan Jones drummer, Ernie Rowell bass and vocals, Earl Erb guitar and a young fiddle player whos name escapes me right now, but that doesn't mean he not memorable hee hee he's a fine fiddle player and the band leader is Bob Knight.
I was up there a few weeks ago and listened to them and they play some great country shuffles and a little swing. |

I am a long time friend of Doyle Grisham, play music with him in Temple Texas in 1961 when he was a great guitar picker, since then he has played steel for David Houston, the Glaiser Brothers, Lynn Anderson, Randy Travis, Jimmy Buffet, and many sessions in Nashville. He is one of the nicest friend anyone could ever have. We stay in contact with Christmas Cards and when I can get to Nashville, we enjoy our visit, Great guy and Great Steel Picker |

In the late nineties Doyle was playing lead guitar on some dates with Jim Glaser and a bass player - a trio situation - and it was absolutely powerful! I was playing steel for the opening act and when it occured to me that Doyle was playing lead for Jim it blew me away. We had breakfast after one of the shows and talked steels and players. A great musician and all around nice guy.
