Just got my copy of Mike's album steels On Wheels, which is a homage to Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman. This might be old news to some of you guys because it came out last year, but it was news to me.

Anyway it's great!

Beautiful tone and touch, Mike, and great melodic work! And groovy too! Not to mention the technique is very impressive. You really made me fall in love with those tunes all over again! On the homage level, you really do justice to those hippie steelers! You really have the Jay Dee sound down!

You're also conjuring Jorgenson shockingly well, especially on that baritone, and great tele work on One Hundred Years From Now.

Groovy, man, groovy!

Ya that's a GREAT side! Mike's been working on tabbing it all out but I haven't seen that available yet. There's more than a few licks on it that I'd like to steel.

Mike is one of my all-time favorites. Last week on the way to Florida, I started to stop over in South Pittsburg and get him to ride down with us.

Even if he is Jerry Springer's twin brother, he's still tops in my book!

Mike is tops with me! I love the Gram Parsons/Chris Hillman CD and he is the first to pay tribute to this style.
His Vince Gill instrumentals is just as good.
Give us more, Mike!

Mike has done a superb job on this one.

I am playing this CD at least a couple of times a week at the house. I was first introduced to the sound of a steel guitar listening to the Burrito Brothers, NRPS and of course the Byrds. There is no doubt Mike not only captured the music but the feel of those great Parsons/Hillman tunes.

I am on the east coast and don't get to hear the west coast steel sound very often.
I am glad we have people like Mike keeping those tunes alive.

Hey Mike,
Any update on a possible tab project for the tunes on this great CD?
Thanks....

I just found this post with Jeff's question. The tab to all 15 songs on the "Steels On Wheels" CD will be available in less than 30 days. This has been something that I just couldn't make myself sit down and do! Forumite Clive Swindell came over a few months back and tabbed out 11 songs as I played and explained each phrase. He's coming back May 30th and we will do the final four songs on the SOW project, as well as the entire "Up To The Gills" CD.

These tabs will shortly thereafter be available in spiral bound books. I'll post a notice on the forum and also send a notice to the people on my mailing list.

Thanks for asking, Jeff, and thanks to you Stephan, for this post and the kind words!

That "Steels on Wheels" CD is still one of my favorites. I did a review of it a while back but I don't know how to bring it back up. If someone who's computer literate could do it there's some good info on this recording. Mike has a great style, tone, and touch for sure and also is a hot 6 stringer too.....JH in Va.

Great news on the tab books, Mike - I know they'll be worth the wait. Great steel playing on both "Steels on Wheels" and "Up to the Gills"...highly recommended for anyone reading this thread that doesn't already own them.
