| Seems like all sales of all kinds have slowed down considerably. Does anyone else see this? Maybe the economy? What are your thoughts? | We have a music store in this town of 15,000 population. Last evening he had to close the doors. Not enough business and losing money, he just could not keep his creditors happy. I have always felt like the economy has had a bearing on it but I have been wrong before. At the present time I am unemployed for the 2nd time in a year so I do not see the economy as booming as we are told. So you know I am not buying right now but when I get something going I probably will be. Another music store closes and what a great loss it is to this town. |

| Maybe the Guitar Centers and Musicians Friend have put a strain on some smaller shops. I don't know. It just seems like items are not selling like they used to. |

| According to the US dept of statistics, we have the highest number of home foreclosures and highest number of bankruptcies in history. And the US is borrowing money from China and Korea to pay for Katrina and the Iraq war.?? This country borrow?? The gas prices are no help and there's no reason for it to be high. Refineries reported 300% profits in the last 12 months. So, they call that the trinkle down effect.? This all affects sales. |

Believe me, its slow, I sometimes think I am here all by myself with all this stuff to sell & no one to buy it!! Its been going down hill since day one for me, I hope I don't hit the bottom too hard!!

| I just gave up my night job and have found two more other jobs to replace that one if I need them all so that makes me hired by three different companys. Christmas is coming on and a lot of people are saving for that no doubt. Also the threat of higher natural gas prices to heat homes is scaring some of us to death. In reality it's going to cost the consumer about another $350 this year to heat their homes with natural gas. That's not quite enough to get in a panic about but read the papers and listen to the news and it's a major crisis. The downtown bars in Nashville are running over with business and the gift shops are doing capacity sales. That doesn't sound like a failing economy. |

Don't be influenced by the liberal media. They want everybody on the verge of jumping off tall buildings. There was a gal in a canoe on the news the other night reporting on the "flooding" in the NE and a couple of guys walked by in water all the way up to their ANKLES!
Smile, things could be worse. I smiled, and sure enough, things got worse.

I've had a PSG for sale for quite a while with practically no response, however; rather than be too discouraged, I'll just leave it available for a would-be buyer until times improve sufficiantly for someone to do so. In this case, I'm hoping patience will pay off eventually!

Interesting question, some things have slowed way down , but other products have gone way up.-----> CDs, DVDs, Hilton pedals, Bars and picks, The new DoBro simulators, Peavey Nashville 112 amps, all tracks and teaching materals are way up, steels are down. It is all evening out here, but yes, I have seen a big change in the last three months.
This "Steel Guitar Nashville store operation (for the steel world) and we watch all business closely. Everything is logged on the computers and we can see all phases/trends of sales. The last two months have had some pretty big changes, we are doing a lot of steel buying now, new and used, because we believe this can't last forever. (Famous last words).
I do feel that the time period between January and May will be very bleak in 2006. Why do I say this? The past trends dictate this fact. But we are going to stay busy doing other facets of the steel biz to be of better service to all players.
But over all, the future looks good for steel in general. I do feel that the some manufacturers need to make some changes in the way they do business in the future, this may not be "just a cottage industry" in the future, The way steels are marketed may need to be streamlined soon.
One Manufacturer seems to already be doing this and I'm hearing others talking about it also. This one thing can bring steel out of the closet and help to legitimize it in the big world of serious musical merchandise.
We as players will benefit the most here,

One person says don't be fooled by the liberal media. Another says don't be fooled by the conservative media.
The truth is "the media" is neither liberal nor conservative. There is a liberal radio network (Air America Radio) and there are liberal magazines (Mother Jones, the Nation) and conservative broadcasters (Fox) and magazines (National Review) but by and large, "the media" is neutral, and it is only perceived as being biased one way or the other according to where we stand on the political spectrum.
Furthermore, none of us need "the media' to tell us how much money is in our bank account. We feel the condition of the economy in our daily lives. If it's doing well, we have more disposable income and can afford more things. If the economy is doing poorly, we find ourselves with less money and have to be more careful how we spend it.
"The media" has nothing to do with it.

| I noticed the stats that Ted gave. We are borrowing from other countries and the gas gas companies have made record profits, 300% was the figure he gave. I have always said it was greed and not a supply and demand problem when it came to gasoline. Now back to the subject, here locally our community is not booming as Washington wants you to believe it is. These last two hurricanes have devastated our country. Much of the money will be going that way and it should. I know when it comes to music equiptment and products we will not be able to buy here locally now. We will buy out of town or off the web. |
