After joining the forum this year I was curious about whether J.D. Call was still playing, and several others here stated the same interest. I'm happy to say that I just returned from a PPL benefit show in Chillicothe, OH (70 some miles east of Cincinnati) and got to see Mr. Call kickin it in a major way with some of the original players - you'd never know they haven't played together since around '77 - even longer in the case of Fuller and George Ed Powell. He tore it up on Two Lane Highway and I'll Fix Your Flat Tire Merle, and added the magic to the other tunes old & new. He's playing a beautiful red Pro III D10 8+5 through a rack unit of some sort - great tone and the mix was perfect. The band has a new disk due for release in the next couple of months, and the band members graciously hung around to sign various articles afterward; J.D. seemed a very pleasant guy to talk to. He indeed lives in the area and hopefully we'll see this lineup again before long.

Great to hear that John is still playing! John David Call and Rusty Young had a major influence on me in the 70's. Their approach to the steel is very refreshing! Regard Bob

It's great to hear of these bands reforming or still playing or just getting together for a show.PPL were a great country rock band in the style of Poco , Mannassas , New Riders etc. These bands turned me on to pedal steel when I was in my teens and not aware of Haggard , Jones etc.

I bought a PPL album a few years ago with all their hits and instead of hearing steel on where it should have been, the tunes were all remixed with no steel!! I threw the CD away. I always loved John Calls playing and he was a big influence why I play steel today. Keep the info coming on when this new CD is available etc...

The new CD should be out in about a month according to their forum. JD Call was sitting in Ohio for their regular steeler Fats Kaplan. It would be nice to see him back full time with PPL. He contributed so much to the original PPL sound. I saw them in Gruene, TX (with Fats) and they were a tight group. Check out their website at http://www.pureprairieleague.com/.
