A name I have not seen on the forum is Norm Hamlet (with Merle Haggard). Norm has been on the PSG scene for many years and I am surprised no one mentioned him.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Norm and I wish I had when I lived in Ridgecrest,Ca.
Maybe Larry Petree (Bakersfield, Ca.)can enlightened us about Norm or anyone who is accquainted with him. LEE |

Try the search function! I just did and found 63 posts with some reference to Norm Hamlet...
He's certainly played on as many classic records as anyone, and is as nice a guy as you'd want to meet. |

I received an email from Larry Petree on Tuesday and he said Norm is doing well and is planning to resume the tour in 3 weeks and he had lost a little weight but was feeling fine, hopefully enough to the rigors of road work.
Norm has been a solid-rock kind of guy unscathed by life on the road which speaks well of him. Obviously, he has touched many who know him personally. |

Hello Lee,
Thanks for asking about me, I am getting along better since I had my heart surgery.
I am trying to stay in practice since I have been home.
I am going to try to go on the next tour which starts on Oct.14th if everything is O.K. with my Cardiologist.
I am sorry I haven`t been on the Forum lately but my computer has messed up some way and I could`nt get it to let me log on.
I am not much of a computer person.
I would also like to thank all my friends who sent cards and E-mails and all of the prayers that were sent my way.
I have so many friends, old and new and as you might expect a lot of them are steel players.
I have always enjoyed watching any one play steel because everyone has their own ideas and there is always a new lick to be heard.
I am going to try to get on the Forum a little more if this computer doesn`t throw me a curve.
Thanks,
Norm Hamlet |

Norm:
It was good to hear from you and that you are ok. Having gone thru what you have I know the feeling. Keep doing what the Doc requests of you and all will be fine.
Heading back on tour will be a wonderful experience again for you. We all appreciate what you do for Merle and the sound you get out of your PSG is fantastic. God Bless you.

I can't say enough good things about Norm. I was fortunate to get to work with him in the 60's and loved his rock solid playing then and now. Norm is such a decent, friendly person I don't think anyone can be compared with him.
I know I don't have to say it, but I will, Norm is one of the best in the world at PSG and I know we are all relieved that he is doing so well after the surgery.
Don't push it Norm, do what the Docs tell you. We gotta get together for another visit soon.

Thank you Norm for the comeback.. Yes, you have been one of my favorite pickers since the first time I ever heard you with Merle. When I was working out of Ridgecrest I tried a couple of times (once with Larry Petree) to get accquainted but you were on the road as I remember. I wish you the best in returning to good health.. then get out there and give us some more great sounds and licks. LEE |

Hi Norm
You and I did some session work together in Lodi CA. for the Larry Daniel project. Just wanted to say hi and wish you the best. That project finally did finish and your playing was great as usual. I talked to Redd the other day and he spoke of you.
Take care, say hi to Scotty for me..

Mr Norm Hamlet, it doesn't get any better on Steel Guitar than Norm. He is the first one that turn me on to Steel Guitar. When I bought an album Merle had recorded live, and he featured Norm and Roy Nichols on a tune called Steelin the Corn. Great Playing by both. And that was my first ever to hear Twin guitar playing or Harmony playing.Man there was some playing on that tune. I still love to listen to that song. Great playing like that you can never get tired of hearing. Thanks Norm and I am glad to hear that you are doing good. The Hag's band would never be the same, if you are not the man behind the Steel Guitar for him. [This message was edited by Steve Dodson on 25 September 2005 at 09:46 AM.] |
