Hi folks,
I've been watching this auction, and I'm thinking of bidding on it as it's still at a low price (in fact, 0 bids):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&i tem=7359417832&ru=http://search.ebay.com:80/7359417832_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8QQfviZ1
I'm just wondering if it looks like the real deal, if it's original finish, if it looks right for what it appears to be? I'm curious why there has been no action on this auction: Are people seeing a problem that I'm not seeing? Are people boycotting Guitar Center? What's the deal? It looks like a sweet deal, and I'm really tempted to try for it, but the fact that no one seems to be touching it makes me cautious.
What do you all think?
Thanks,
Cliff[This message was edited by Cliff Kane on 26 October 2005 at 11:18 AM.] |

At its current price, with 0 bids, I'd say it's a good deal. I've seen the tuner/machine heads go for $250 a piece. |

It looks good from here. Never thought I'd see the day when GC lists a reasonable price for steel in nice shape,...and, gets the information correct! |

You will have to replace the volume knobs and the tone knobs. They can be bought at any music store, those knobs fit the current
model telecasters as well. They are available through all Fender dealers.BUY IT !!!!!!!

Cliff. you have about an hour left. wish i had some change I would bid on that.
the local guitar shop has a dual 8 for three times that .
so it looks like a good deal.
best of luck. |

Where's the flocking on the underside of the steel? Not there. Very high chance it's been refinished. You won't really know until you remove some hardware and see what's in the cavities.

Just remember, one hour to go doesn't mean a thing. It's the final minute that counts on eBay.
Go for it and good luck! Cool guitar. |

Where's the flocking on the underside of the steel? Not there....Early models had NO flocking on the underside this may be a 49 version. Its original from what I can see.See the serial number 1949 vintage [This message was edited by Jody Carver on 26 October 2005 at 02:44 PM.] |

Hey, I "won" the auction! (well, I still have to pay for it, so it's not reallly like winning something....). Did I do okay?
Thanks again for your good help and information!
I'll post an update when I actually get it.
Cheers!

If it's as clean as it looks, no issues, and has that great Fender sound, then you did rather well. I like the oak a lot.
Congratulations.
Hey Jody, what're doin' up there? [This message was edited by HowardR on 26 October 2005 at 02:44 PM.] |

Congrats Cliff,
I thought I got one of these on another ebay auction earlier this week, but the reserve wasn't met. Is this the same guitar that was being talked about in this other Forum thread?

Hi Garry, yea, it's the same. I'll definately be posting about it, and I'm sure I'll have questions once it's here. Garry, you're just down the road from me....what's going on? Let me know if anything's happening!
Cheers!

Cliff, if you're free tomorrow Friday 10/28/05), I'll be playing with a couple of friends at the Buena Park Moose Lodge on Knott Ave just north of Lincoln. Bring your axe down and sit in on a few. They play mostly older country (Haggard, Willie and some Hank). It’s very casual, no drums. |

Gary,
thanks a lot for the invitation. Unfortunately tonight's out for me, but if you guys do it again perhaps I can make it. Keep in touch, and I'll do the same.
Best regards,
Cliff |
