Leavitt: I Can't Help It If......

Post by Roy Thomson »

This is a song remembering Hank Williams on
the Lap Steel with Leavitt set up.
Experimenting with the slant technique
on this tuning graduating in half steps
using both forward and back moves with the bar.
Actually easier to do some of this on a lap steel than on my pedal steel.

Very nice Roy. Are you sure you don't have a pedal or two hooked up to that thing?

I was going thru some CDs last evening and took out a Chet Atkins disc ,,,actually his
Solo Sessions which was recorded in his home Studio. It was released after his passing I beleive? On it he played this song in a medley and inspired me to give it a shot also.
I used my son's Gibson BR-6. He left it with me to get all the keys replaced which are disintergrating fast.
For those not familiar the Leavitt tuning from high to low goes,,D--C--Bb--G--E--C#
Every time I play it I find so many different
ways of playing a song. Image
My thanks to you guys and I hope you give this tuning a try sometime.

Roy
There must be something unusual going on, the way you post your mp3’s. When I download your files I get nothing but the name, and when I try to stream, I get nothing at all.
I can see I’m not the only one with this problem.

Sorry,
I am checking into it.
It must have to do with the
format req'd by my hosting site?

I have no problem - first I click on the link, then on the page that comes up I right-click on "Download MP3" and save the file.

Roy was nice enough to send me an MP3. I finally got it open per his suggestion to use Windows Media Player. My computer was set to use another player.

Here is another link to the song provided by Andy Sandoval. Perhaps this will work on the other Media Players besides Windows Media. http://members.cox.net/loveridehd3/ICan'tHelpItIf.mp3

Simply beautiful Roy. But, are you telling me on the part where the lyrics would be "I can't help it if I'm still IN LOVE with you" the part in question being the "in love", that you didn't do a behing the bar pull?
Wow! Do you have a TAB of that I could get?
Thanks for keeping it going (the tuning that is)

Hello Mike and thanks !
Yes that is a half tone tug behind the bar
at the 4th fret on the second string. The
trick for me was to keep the 4 and 5 strings sustaining underneath while executing the effect.
I only have my notes at this point which I
used while recording the song but I will put it to tab son I hope.
I love working with the tuning.
