That was great, great singing from Natalie Maines, and great steel fron RR.Also I thought that Garth Brooks, and Tricia Yearwood killed on "Who'll stop the rain.I saw a lot of conviction on that show.

Yep, that was a surprise, and it was good.
(What are those pedals for? Maybe I don't need them....)
CCR was a surprise too. A lot of conviction.
My favorite moment: Dr. John.

I just watched thew Chicks live DVD last night with Cha Cha.
She loved it, and so did I.
Robby Turner did some fine steel work, and you actually could see him lay too.

I don't care what anyone says, these ladies have got "it".

I really enjoyed RR.
I thought Natalie sounded rough on her vocal. I didn't care for the song either.

I liked Garth and Trisha! It's great to see and hear him again.

I salute all the musicans & performers!

Personally, I thought Garth was singing a bit off pitch, but I'll give 'em an E for effort. Between him, Trisha, and that background singer, that stage really took a pounding (no pun intended).

I jumped out of my chair when I saw Robert Randolf there! What a great guy!! What a great spirit!!! Who cares what pedals or knee levers he does or doesn't use. His HEART is as big as Texas and Alaska put together. To me, that's what its all about.

I thought it was one of Garth's backup's that was off.
Let's go ahead and pick at them all and get it over with. I thought the sincerity of the thing was easy to see. It was live, right?

I got just a glimpse of Robert on that show & it seemed to me he wasn't using finger picks? Any one of you notice that?

There were some sound problems on the show last night, there was lots of feedback. Monitor volume has a lot to do with singing on pitch. That was the first time I had heard Robert Randolph back up a singer, I liked it too.

What about Garth's backup band, Paul Shaeffer, Will Lee, and I can't remember the guitar players name, straight from the Late Show.

Bob C. good choice to back off the politics at a time like this. You can be assured that in due time, at a snails' pace this will all be sorted out, the talking heads will spin and if we are extremely lucky, things will improve.

Remember the old saying "I'm from the Government---and I am here to help you".

Hi Darvin,
That guitar players name is Sid McGinnis.
He joined "Late Night with David Letterman" in 1984 as guest guitarist of the week and has remained as a permanent guitarist with Letterman ever since.

He has toured with Barry Manilow, Peter Gabriel, Carly Simon and Laurie Anderson and recorded with such diverse artists as Dire Straits, Ashford & Simpson, David Lee Roth, Bob Dylan and David Bowie.

He's a great player in good company!

I thought I saw Paul Shaeffer backing Garth, too, or am I delusional?. Robert Randolf was way cool too.
I don't know how much that program raised, but I'm sure they smacked a pretty good home run for the Katrina victims!

Here's an overview from the Boston Herald:

Stars shine spotlight on needy during Katrina relief telethon
By Sarah Rodman
Saturday, September 10, 2005 - Updated: 12:33 AM EST

Images of devastation and suffering still flicker on our television screens but mourning wasn't the dominant mood of last night's multi-network telethon ``Shelter From The Storm: A Concert For The Gulf Coast.''

Optimism and compassion were also on display as musicians and actors, some with ties to the Gulf Coast region, offered up their songs and star power hoping to spur viewers of six networks and several cable channels to contribute to aid efforts for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

Similar in structure to the post-9/11 effort ``America: A Tribute to Heroes,'' the hour-long special featured 13 musical performances by a wide variety of artists interspersed with actors' pleas for aid. Stars including Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts, and Cameron Diaz also manned a phone bank to accept donations.

Randy Newman started the night off with a solo piano reading of his hauntingly appropriate lament ``Lousiana 1927,'' which was sung by Aaron Neville during NBC's telethon last weekend. Newman's performance was followed by an impassioned duet of ``One'' by U2 and Mary J. Blige.

Many of the artists sang songs relevant to the area of devastation, including the Foo Fighters' rendition of Credence Clearwater Revival's ``Born on The Bayou.'' Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, and the Late Show with David Letterman band also dipped into the CCR catalog for ``Who'll Stop the Rain.''

Paul Simon performed ``Take Me to Mardi Gras,'' complete with second line jazz band, and New Orleans native Dr. John closed with a solemn ``Walkin' to New Orleans.''

Others sang songs of hope, such as the Dixie Chicks aided by steel guitarist Robert Randolph, and guitarist Mike Campbell of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers and Mariah Carey, who was backed by a choir on her ``Fly Like a Bird.'' Alicia Keys got a revival going with gospel singers Shirley Caesar, Bishop Daniels and Alvin Slaughter on ``Come By Here,'' and Rod Stewart and Talk of the Town performed a spirited doo wop version of ``People Get Ready.'' Celebrity presenters Don Cheadle, Jack Black, along with Mississippi natives Sela Ward and Morgan Freeman and New Orleans-bred Ellen Degeneres told stories of survivors and asked for viewers to help.

The only participant to seemingly go off-script was comic Chris Rock who, in an ill-advised attempt at humor, blurted, ``George Bush hates midgets'' before his otherwise pointed segment about the economic realities that made it impossible for some New Orleans residents to evacuate the doomed city. Rock was riffing on rapper Kanye West's off-the-cuff remarks during last Friday's NBC telethon in which West claimed, ``George Bush doesn't care about black people.''

Last night, West was occasionally censored during his performance of ``Jesus Walks'' but that was for profanity not impromptu social criticism. Also employing a choir, West threw in a freestyle verse about the unimaginable horrors of those stranded at the Superdome in New Orleans last week.

Proceeds from last night's telethon will be directed to hurricane relief funds established by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Broadcast networks carrying the event included ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC.

wants to see it.
