I was surfing today and found a link to some sound clips from the "Master of the Steel Strings, The Little Darlin' Sounds of Lloyd Green CD, which was apparently released in July of 2004. It is a compilation of tunes from "Hit Sounds" and "Day of Decision" going back to 1966 and 67. This stuff is awesome and if you haven't heard the recordings, go to this link and listen to some of it.

The lick at the beginning of "Almost Persuaded" (number 20 on the album) is so beautiful! It's what I call "pure Lloyd Green".
Somebody ought to tab that clip. Hey Ricky Davis, are you listening?
You can purchase this CD through the forum too!

I agree, Tony - I dowloaded this album via Apple's iTunes (which was surprising, because their country selection is pretty mediocre usually)... Very cool! The slower ones (especially "Green Velvet") just kill me. I love the old, lo-fi sound of the recording. |

Ricky,
Yep, that's the one and it is so cool! You are so right about Lloyd playing in positions, and using string combinations and movements that make it difficult to figure out. Hey, that's why he IS "The Master of the Steel Strings" and why I am so enthralled by his playing.

That is absolutel right. Everytime I am looking at the tabbed intro to "Jukebox Charlie" I shake my head and wonder How can somebody even think of such an intro?????". Then I listen to the intro and shake my head one more time, but with a big smile !
The musical creativity behind those recordings is simply amazing!
Kind Regards, Walter

I heard Lloyd uses a string combination of 2 & 6 quite a bit. I don't know what licks it gets used on. I also heard he slants the bar a lot since he doesn't lower the high E. I may need to take a closer look at his style since I'm thinking about removing the high E lower on the ZB. It returns sharp every time!
Walter, is the first half of the intro to Jukebox Charlie played on 1 & 3 popping the B pedal? That intro is pure genius.

Walter and Dave I tabbed Jukebox Charlie on the Rebel and Ricky site; only for ease of playability. Lloyd uses the 1st string trill of sliding it up a half tone and back quickly.

It's available from the Forum Catalog.
I can't compete with that VH1 price, though.[This message was edited by b0b on 18 August 2005 at 11:25 AM.] |
