My buddy gave me a cd called the Vanduras, In The Dark. Pretty haunting stuff. They are a father and son duo. Can anyone tell me about them? Thanks, Ron

The 'father' of the two, Gary Brandin, is a member of this forum, usually seen over at the No Peddlers section. He's also responsible for a good chunk of the steel work on the cartoon show "Spongebob".

The "In The Dark" album is one of my favorites, a masterpiece in the "Surf-noir" genre (or whatever it's called). Great CD!

You can read more about them here: http://www.pascalrecords.com/b_vanduras.html

I checked that site. One man is holding a regular guitar. So there is only one steel player? What kind of guitar is that on his lap?

Ron, yeah Brandin is the only steeler on the album. I'm not sure about the steel on the photo, but as far as I know he used a Rickenbacker D8 for most of the non-pedal stuff on the CD.

Ron, the steel I'm holding is my D-8 Magnatone. You can't tell by the picture, but
the Magnatone is much better lookin' than my D-8 Ric.

Steinar, thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to hearing your CD when it's
finished.

Smiley, I'll have to get ya out on a surfboard before we can trade jobs.

b0b, thanks for the plug!

I highly recommend getting yourself a copy of the Vanduras CD, awesome driving, cooking, eating, around the house record.

I have the Vanduras 'In The Dark' CD and I love it. It has been played so many times in my loungeroom that I think the neighbours know all the tunes by now.
It's great.

Gary, make sure you post the release date for the new Blue Hawaiians CD.

And the date and location of the CD release party...

I love the Vanduras too, and I like to watch Spongebob, the steel on it is really good. Could you get me Spongebob's autograph?
