"Imagine the year is 1946 and you live in Europe. You’re a steel guitarist and, naturally, you’re really interested in Hawaiian music. You don’t want to play this music all by yourself, so you find three other guys who are interested ,and voila! You’re a band!

That’s simplifying things, but in essence that’s the story of steel guitarist Walter Roost and The Hula Hawaiians, a terrific group of musicians whose repertoire included everything from Hawaiian standards to swing/pop/jazz-flavored material to downright rockin’/rhythm and bluesy numbers" These guy were playin Hawaiian music back in the late forties and fifties but I don't think they put anything down on vinyl till the sixties. Anybody ever heard of em?

Die Hula Hawaiians !! ( The Hula Hawaiians!!)
I have that cd....Great playing from this European band.

The tune SCHWARZER MUSTANG shows some great playing between the steel and guitar.
Got to love there singing on songs like Beyond the Reef and Hula Hula

I did some Gooogle'n and found this info on the Hula Hawaiians.

ALOHA BASILEA THE HULA HAWAIIANS & 50 JAHRE ENTERTAINMENT IN BASEL (Switzerland, 1995 - by Matti/Engeler) S/S CHF 30:00
Incredible out of print book about (mostly) the legendary (and truly SENSATIONAL) HULA HAWAIIANS from Basel, Switzerland!! They were responsible for one of the most deadly 50s ROCK ´N´ ROLL GUITAR instrumentals of all times, namely the "Chimpanzee Rock" from the glorious year of 1957!! They´ve started to cut their first records way back in 1947!! Amongst them were some real fantastic guitar boogies, some cool rock'n roll (vocals and instrumentals), but mostly incredibly strange (sometimes rocking) tropical Hawaiian influenced exotica!! The book is in German, but it has literally hundreds of truly amazing photos inside that you should see, as well as the Hula Hawaiians enormous discography!! The Hula Hawaiians are still playing every tuesday at their very own, small and private Hula Club in Basel and they have not changed their instruments and lineup since 1955! The unmistakable sound of the Steelguitar remained always the brand name of the Hula's.
