Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce myself and thank Bobby Lee for this fantastic resource! I played quite a lot in my late teens and early twenties (I'm now 45) before abandoning the steel (oh the shame!)for other musical pursuits, but suddenly felt the need to start up again a few weeks ago. I found the forum and have been getting caught up on postings: I feel like I've learned more about the steel in two weeks on this site than in the entire six or seven years I was playing before. The advice and feedback from so many steelers makes starting up again seem realistic.

I've got myself a Carter Starter and look forward to building up my chops again. This time I promise not to go astray!

Welcome to another New England-ah.

I spent dozens of summers on Squam Lake. Are you anywhere near there?

Hey Dan, welcome from the panhandle of Texas. The Forum is just super, the guys and gals are great and willing to share info or at least guide you to it. You won't be sorry. Glad to hear you are playing again. And remember, the only stupid question is one not asked.

Thanks all,

one I thing I do remember from my previous steel days is how friendly and helpful (not to mention enthusiastic!) steel players are.

I'm having a slightly frustrating time getting my playing going again: I ordered a Dunlop bar last week which hasn't come yet, so I'm playing my new steel using a wood cylinder block from my daughter's old play block set as my bar(!!!!) (It was a step up from the coffee mug I tried when I set up the steel the night I got it!) I keep telling myself that this is going to do wonders for my tone when the bar gets here.

All in all, it beats not playing all those years.
