Wow, I love it! This song has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it, I had a 78 rpm record by Jimmie and Leon Short. Beautiful words and music written by Karl Davis.
I really like your live shot of the song, the steel thumbpickin' is wonderful. Al |

Yes Drew, same song, as far as I can tell.
I got hooked on this tune while on tour with Mr.Price in the late sixtys, we were touring with Flatt and Scruggs and backstage Lester was always walking around with his Martin flat top guitar playing this song, over and over and over and over. After about 25 tour dates we worked together, I had a real love for this tune, and the way he broke meter. One super person, treated everyone like a king. Lester Flatt, a hero.

The link won't work for me?
I'm bitin' at the bit to hear the "Maestro".
Can you make it a Windows Media friendly
link Bobbe?
I remember Chet playing Kentucky but he did not do it Thumbstyle.
It's a beauty of a song!

I'm getting pretty old now, but I would love to come and watch you do that in person. I might make it yet. Thanks so much for sharing these songs with us, and the tips and newsletters too. I've gotta order some cd's now. The second little snippit of a song was great too, I think it was "Do I Love you", is that right?
P.S. Roy, I used Windows Media Player and it worked fine. Hope you can hear it.

Roy, I always sound a lot better on the wifes computer. I kinda lean that way.
Tell her I said thank you for letting you "borrow" hers.
Now possibly you can show me how to do it right!
Eric West plays my styles better than I do! Really, lick for lick!
Your fan,

Thank you for all the emails.
Many of you have asked who the musicians were on this CD, well, it reads pretty good. Uncle Josh Graves on the first Dobro, (me on the last),Buddy Spicher, Kenny Baker and Vasser Clemets on fiddels, no drums at all, Bass, Mandolin and rhythm guitars by the original Flatt and Scrugg's organization.
Yes, it was recorded many years ago, when I still had the desire and energy to do this sort of thing.

Seriously, with you in Benton IL, I'll have a fun time. I always do when I laugh, I mean, listen to your playing!

Hey I got the Live cd today. In twenty five words or less, Fantastic! It don't get no better then that.
I noticed in that pic on the inside your right foot is outside the legs of the steel, and no volume pedal. Did you play that way or was that just a photo session?
