I have several instrumental albums by Jerry but I don't have much in the way of him playing behind a singer. Who can recomend some of his best work and is it available on CD
Thanks
Wade

Wade,

There is no better source than our buddy Ray Montee - he is hosting the great website www.jerrybyrdfanclub.com

Check it out or send an e-mail to Ray, I am sure he can help out!

Jerry was one of the busiest session players in the 4o's and 50's, he played with all the greats like Hank Williams, Red Foley, Carl Smith, George Morgan...

Kind Regards, Walter

And if you can locate a recording of "Next to Jimmy" by Ferlin Huskey, Jerry played one of the all time best riffs and back up I have ever heard.
But all that he did was the best. Sure do wish Jerry well in this time of his.

Bill you are so right about "Next To Jimmy". Here is the link for those who want to listen to Jerry play this tune. Go to Page 11 and scroll down about half way. Ray Montee does have a great web site dedicated to Jerry Byrd. Ray is also one of the best steel players I have ever heard, especially when he plays Jerry's style. It is hard for me to tell Ray from Jerry on a lot of tunes I have heard Ray play. I hope Jerry Byrd get's well soon. He is the Benchmark for Touch, Tone and Taste IMO.

That "Next To Jimmy" on the Record Lady site is only the first minute of the song. There is no steel after 2 bars of a very nice intro. Who has the whole song in mp3?

Ferlin Huskey, "The Waltz You Saved For Me" will absolutely make you cry,no pedals, just that Byrd tone, touch, etc, etc.
I'll see if I can find a link. It's on the Record Lady site.

Earnest, I get 2:06 minutes with Real Player on the Record Lady's site. Don't know why you don't get the same?

Thanks, Roger, now I do get the full 2:06, using a different player, namely Real Alternative.
I don't use Real Audio (malware).
I had been converting from .ra to .mp3 format, but apparently my converter was doing only the first minute.

That is a very nice steel solo.
