My neighbor and friend Tom Killen has been playing steel for George 20+ years. Introduce yourself to Tom and ask him about his "new" Sho~Bud, and tell him I said hello.

Bob is right. Tom has been with George for a very long time now. Great player too I might add.
Tom and I played in the same band back in the 70's when he and I lived in Missouri. I was playing bass at that time however. I guess I can say that Tom kind of put the thought in my head way back then to finally get into playing steel.
Bob if you see Tom tell him to send me E mail. I haven't heard from him in a while. Thank-you in advance.

George Jones was just at Renfro Valley last Saturday nite. I didnt get to see the show because we are doing our shows at the same time, but I did get to catch up with Tom for awhile before the show. He showed me his "New Bud", and man its nice. He really loves it and hasn't played his Emmons since he got it.

Bob,Tom worked with the band I was with back in the 70's in Pompano Beach-he needed to work so he came down to Fl.,enjoyed the weather-this is when George (was no show Jones-)he finally went back to work with George--I would like to get back in touch with him and also talk to him about his steel-I am curious as to what model he is using-we had alot of fun working together-If you can help me make contact with him -I would appreciate it

This is the Sho-bud I did up for Tom; and he hasn't touched either of his Emmons since.
It is a first run Pro~II and I don't believe I've met a more excited guy about a Steel guitar. Tom is so happy to be playing this Sho~bud and I am thrilled everytime I talk to Tom and hear his excitement.

As a matter of fact, Tom called me here today and ordered strings to be shipped to him via next-day-air. He says he absolutely loves the Jagwire strings, the best he's ever played on, and now all of his guitars proudly wear the Jagwire decal. I'm pretty proud of that, and of Tom  Super great player, and a really great guy. |

Yes Carson; the "Pro~II" like the one pictured above is exactly like the professional in every way; except it has crossbars with two hole pullers to pull the barrels and the Professional has racks.

Yes Kevin; these first run Pro~II's are the most monsterous sounding Sho~bud's ever made if you ask me; and IF you keep them Original.

I got to hear Tom last night. He really sounded great and actually got some room to play. We don't get to hear many truly great steel players like Tom in this neck of the woods (actually we don't get to hear many steel players at all), so it was a real treat. I talked to him after the show,what a nice guy.
I got to see his new Sho-Bud up close. It was my first "in person" look at one of Ricky's rebuilds. It was superbly done. You could eat off the undercarriage of that thing, it was immaculate. The sound wasn't too shabby either, even though they don't use amps it sounded great out front. I'd love to hear it through an old Twin with a 15!
Tom told me that a friend of his, some guy named Lloyd (?), sat down at Tom's guitar, hit a chord then proceeded to play it for the next hour!
That old guy that was singing with Tom actually put on a great show, he don't need no rockin' chair... |
